PTI | Silchar (Assam) | February 22, 2014:: BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday said Hindu migrants from Bangladesh must be accommodated in the country and detention camps would be done away with once his party comes to power.

“As soon as we come to power at the Centre, detention camps housing Hindu migrants from Bangladesh will be done away with,” Modi told a public rally at Ramnagar here.

“We have a responsibility toward Hindus who are harassed and suffer in other countries. Where will they go? India is the only place for them. Our government cannot continue to harass them. We will have to accommodate them here,” he said.

Stating that this did not mean that Assam has to bear the entire burden, he said “it will be unfair on them and they will be settled across the country with facilities to begin a new life.”

Earlier, Hindus from Pakistan had arrived in Gujarat and Rajasthan, but Atal Behari Vajpayee during his prime ministership created schemes to accommodate them in different states, he said.

Modi alleged that the Assam government as a part of its vote bank politics had violated human rights of Hindu migrants in detention camps.

Speaking on the issue of ‘doubtful’ voters, Modi said this was also a part of the Congress’ vote bank politics of denying a section of the people their right to vote.

He urged the Election Commission to remove the tag of doubtful voters and give these people the right to vote to ensure free and fair polls.

Modi said that there were two kinds of people who came from Bangladesh to Assam; those brought as a part of a ’political conspiracy’ for vote bank politics of a particular party, and others who were harassed in the neighbouring country.

He said that those brought for vote bank politics and smugglers from Bangladesh should be pushed back, while the second category must find a place in the country.

“Bangladesh is next to Assam, while Pakistan is next to Gujarat. Assam Bangladeshi se pareshan hai par pura Pakistan mujse pareshan hai. (Assam is harassed by Bangladesh whereas Pakistan is bothered by me),” the Gujarat Chief Minister said at his second meeting of the day in the North East.

“You have to decide whether you will continue to tolerate Bangladeshi harassment or put an end to it. I have come to you for your answer. Trust me and as soon as we come to power we will take immediate steps to redress these problems and ensure that justice prevails,” he said.

No power in this world can snatch away our territory: Shri Narendra Modi in Pasighat

Appreciating the untapped natural beauty in Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Modi attributed the state as the ‘orchard of India’ and said that Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh shared close relations. He added that the land of Arunachal was blessed to have the first rays of the sun fall here, and that the final rays of setting of the sun in Gujarat conveyed that they will rise again tomorrow in Arunachal. “The 1st rays of the sun bless this land. Arunachal Pradesh rises first then the rest of India rises,” said Shri Modi.

Stating that the thinking of the nation is changing, Shri Modi said that only the thought of progress will work now, and that the land and its people will not tolerate any acts of violence and aggression. “Yug badal chuka hai…vistarwadi mansikta sweekar nahi hogi. Cheen ko bhi yeh mansikta tyag deni hogi. Vikas ki mansikta chalegi. The ear has been changed. Nobody is ready to accept any expansionism . China should also reject this mentality of aggression.  The time will continue with the signs of development. No power in this world can snatch away our territory,” said Shri Modi.

Shri Modi said that the foreign powers are active in the north east and the unchecked infiltration is a very dangerous threat to our country. These must be tackled in a very strict regulations.

Urging the people of Arunachal to show their support for the BJP in the 2014 elections, Shri Modi said that the BJP would shine in all the 8 states of Northeast India. “The Lotus will shine in all the 8 states! There will be prosperity and progress in the region. Saugandh mujhe is mitti ki mai desh nahi mitne doonga, mai desh nahi tootne doonga, mai desh nahi jhukne doonga. I am taking the vow in the name of this soil that I will not allow any destruction of this country, I will not allow any further division of this country and never allow any situation for which My Nation shall have to bow down to others. Jai Hind.  ” said Shri Modi.

Though Narendra Modi restrained himself to comment hard over the growing Christian conversion and militant outfits poked by Chinese powers in the area, the prime ministerial candidate of BJP categorically cautioned China and the subversive powers engaged to destabilize the peace and integrity of North-East region of India and adjacent.
