Sentinel Correspondent | Silchar | 28 April 2014:: The Police today detained Jacky Zakir, the second husband of the controversial MLA from Borkhola Dr Rumi Nath based on her complaint against him.

The sources said that Dr Rumi Nath filed a complaint with Silchar Sadar police station against her husband Jacky Zakir today, alleging that she has been harassed both mentally and physically by her husband. Based on the complaint, Silchar Police detained Jacky Zakir from Mashimpur in Cachar district.

It can be recollected here that Rumi Nath secretly married Jacky Zakir on April 13 by embracing Islam (her Islamic name was Rabiya Sultana ~ Editor, Hindu Existence. )  without divorcing her first husband Rakesh Kumar Singh. After refusing of her marriage for many days, on May, 2012, Borkhola MLA Rumi Nath dramatically confessed to her second marriage with Jacky Zakir and after which a sensation sparked in the entire valley. The people came out to the streets and condemned her act. Her effigies were burnt across the valley.

Moreover, on May 13, 2012, she visited the historic Hindu temple of Nrimata in her constituency with her first husband Rakesh Singh and their two–year–old baby Hriddhi on her lap to offer prayers to the God and the Goddess, concealing her conversion and marriage. When the electorates came to know about it, they accused her of defiling the temple and hurting the religious sentiments and feelings of Hindus.

After that, on June 29, when Rumi and Jacky went to Karimganj and decided to stay in a hotel, a strong mob soon gathered outside. Many of them made their entry inside and broke open the door of the room where both were taking rest after dinner. Both Rumi and Jacky became the target of mob fury. Rumi and Jacky was beaten, thrashed and battered. The blows and kicks that followed from the infuriated people caused severe injuries to them. Rumi Nath by then had fainted.

All their prayers to the mob failed to pacify them. All this went on for long 45 minutes. Later, Rumi was admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for the treatment and then she was taken to Guwahati for the better treatment. The Rumi–Jacky episode became the centre stage of discussions for almost three months. Dr Rumi Nath was first elected to the Assembly in 2006 on a BJP ticket from Borkhola and later joined the Congress and retained the seat for the second consecutive term in 2011.

Dr Rumi Nath, the  Hindu MLA of Congress Party from Barkhola,  married at first with a Hindu physicians from Uttar Pradesh, named Rakesh Kumar Singh. Out of that relation they gave birth a girl child named ‘Riddhi’. After fallen in the facebook trap of  Abu Sayed Mohammad Zakir Hussain alias Jacky Zakir, a unemployed Muslim young man, Rumi fled with that Love Jihadist leaving her husband and daughter in a very critical spell. The entire matter was  promoted and supported by the influential Minister of Assam, Siddique Ahmed who helped Zakir to marry  Rumi Nath according to the Islamic faith . Rumi was converted then as Rabiya Sultana. At one point Rabiya and Zakir fled to Bangladesh violating rules and regulations.

After marriage Zakir started torture to his wife Rumi alias Rabiya . Economically dependent on her,  Zakir started forcing her wife to get huge money to run his lavish life. Rumi tried all her best to her husband by arranging opportunities for him to join Bollywood film industries as co actor. But it was not preferable for Zakir except finding new targets like Rumi. Every night Zakir used to return home after drinking liquor and started beating his wife mercilessly. On  April 7 night, a highly intoxicated Zakir demanded a car and 15 lakh rupees in cash from Rumi. Zakir started ultimate torture upon Rumi as she disagreed to fulfill the demand of Zakir. Zakir tried to murder Rumi after binding her hands and legs. According to Rumi, she rescued herself per chance. On the very next day, Rumi lodged a compliant in the police station with the marks of severe torture  in her body .

On the basis of  compliant of Dr Rumi Nath alias Rabiya Sultana in the matter of physical and psychological torture upon her, Police of Arunachal PS  arrested her 2nd husband Jacky Zakir from Shalchapra of Kachar district on 28 April.  Zakir was brought in to the custody of Silchar Sadar police. Police started case against Zakir under  the sections of 457, 34, 331, 364, 384 and 307 of of Indian Penal Code.

Sayed Mohammad Zakir Hussain alias Jacky Zakir denied all the allegations and declared himself as a devout Muslim and he can do anything under the only dictum of Quran, but nothing beyond!  (Editor, Hindu Existence).

Guwahati (Assam): May 27, 2012 : An Assam MLA, who is married and has a two-year-old daughter, has been reported missing ever since she eloped with a youth on Tuesday.

Reports doing the rounds say that Rumee Nath, 32, sneaked into Bangladesh along with her second husband Jacky Zakir, a government employee, even as the police are searching for them.

Rumee, who represents the Barkhola assembly segment, converted to Islam and married her long-time Facebook friend Zakir about a month ago in Islamic way.

When her wedding photographs were flashed on local TV channels, she rubbished them as ‘doctored’. However, she admitted to her second marriage after eloping with Zakir on Tuesday.

On Friday, she circulated a video to the media disclosing that state minister Siddeque Ahmed “facilitated” the marriage.

Her husband Rakesh Singh has reportedly petitioned chief minister Tarun Gogoi against the minister. Singh earlier filed an FIR with the police reporting ‘abduction’ of his wife.

“Zakir is my legal husband and henceforth, I have no relation with Rakesh Singh. I will soon file for divorce,” Rumee told the media. She said she did not admit to her second marriage earlier owing to ‘political pressures’.

“I converted to Islam before my second marriage and at my own volition. Therefore, the Hindu marriage laws won’t be applicable to me,” she said adding that she would claim the custody of her daughter.

An advocate of the Gauhati High Court said the MLA’s claim would hold little ground. “Her claim that she got converted to Islam and therefore, seeking divorce from her husband was not binding on her before second marriage holds little ground,” the advocate said and added, “She could be charged with polygamy and sentenced to seven years in jail.”

Rumee switched over to the Congress from the BJP following her expulsion for cross-voting in a Rajya Sabha election a couple of years ago.’
