Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | Lucknow | March 18, 2017:: Amid huge speculations about BJP’s chief ministerial pick in Uttar Pradesh, the party according to ANI reports has announced Yogi Adityanath as the next chief minister of the state on Saturday evening after the crucial party legislature meeting in Lucknow.

Earlier today morning Union Minister and senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said that the party’s Chief Minister choice for Uttar Pradesh will be decided only after the meeting of party MLAs and that the names circulating in the media were only speculations. Union Minister of communication (independent charge) Manoj Sinha was believed to be the frontrunner for the post, while supporters of BJP leaders Keshav Prasad Maurya and Yogi Adityanath were seen staging demonstration outside party headquarters in Lucknow wanting the leaders to be made the chief minister of the state.

ANI reports say Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath to be CM. UP BJP President Keshav Prasad Maurya and Lucknow Mayor Dinesh Sharma to be deputies.

Yogi Adityanath’s name was proposed by BJP leader Suresh Khanna and was supported by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu. Known for his firebrand Hindutva image, the 44-year-old BJP leader comes from the Rajput community and is the head of the Gorakhnath Mutt in Gorakhpur, which has millions of followers from eastern UP and neighbouring Nepal. He has been elected as the Lok Sabha MP from Gorakhpur uninterrupted from 1998 (1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014 elections). He has been winning from his constituency since 1998, a seat where his spiritual father Mahant Avaidyanath had won from 1989-98.

He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Science in Math from HNB Garhwal University in Uttarakhand.

Yogi Adityanath is a priest-politician from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh and is known for his staunch Hindutva approach. The 44-year-old politician was the youngest member of the 12th Lok Sabha at 26. He is reportedly responsible for a major ‘purification drive’ of converting Muslims and Christians in Gorakhpur in 2005. However, the leader does not approve these as a conversion drive, but claim as re-conversion or ghar wapsi. After the Modi government came to power in 2014, Uttar Pradesh saw rise of such drives again and the leader has vowed not to stop till religious conversion is banned.

The secular media highlighted Yogi’s involvement with 2007 communal violence in Uttar Pradesh, but they failed to establish it. His inflammatory speeches also led to arrests and riots in the state. His arrest led to further unrest and several coaches of the Mumbai bound Mumbai-Gorakhpur Godan Express were burnt, allegedly by protesting Hindu Yuva Vahini activists. Recently, he also compared popular Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan to Pakistan terrorist Hafiz Saeed and created a fresh controversy.

In 2002, Yogi set up Hindu Yuva Vahini, a socio-cultural outfit, but whose volunteers were known to use strong-arm tactics in riots, cow-protection drives and in their attempts to curtail ‘love jihad’.

In Indian history after Independence, this is the first time that a saffron robed Yogi Monk (sannyasi of Dashnami Akhada) is going to take an oath of his office as Chief Minister of an Indian province.

The sworn in ceremony of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister is likely to be held in Lucknow on Sunday.  Adityanath will be the 21st chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and the fourth from the saffron party. He will be sworn in tomorrow at a ceremony at Kanshiram Smriti Upvan at 2.15 PM where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah will be present.

Yogi Adityanath is the Supreme Head of Nath Sect of Hindu Dharma and chief pontiff of renowned Gorakh Peeth and Gorakhnath Temple of Gorakhpur. He is also a prominent face of Ram Janmabhoomi Movement and a senior member of Marg Darshak Mandali of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

Gorakh Peeth maintains several schools and colleges and managed a specialty hospital.

Hindus across the world welcome the first Sannyasi CM of Uttar Pradesh and first in such a post. Yogi Adityanath is well known for his stand to Save ‘Gita-Ganga-Gayatri-Dhenu-Himalaya-Bharti’. He is a champion warrior to protect Hindu culture and tradition and a prolific crusader for save Cows, Ganges and Himalayan environment movements.

Jai Sri Ram and ‘Mandir wahi banayenge’ (We will make the temple at Ayodhya) are the only slogans coming from the Hindus of UP and India.
