[We have heard about what the Christians in India have called the persecutions against them. However, there is much more to this story than we often hear, and there are certainly two sides to it. The following is a first-hand investigative article that relates what has really been going on with the Christians in India, much of which has been kept from the public. This shows the duplicity in the Christian activities in India. This article, by Francois Gautier, is reprinted from the “Annual Research Journal, 2001” published by the Institute for Rewriting Indian [and World] History.]

Still so many lower cast hindus are not permitted to enter in temples. If we act like that sure one day hindus face real problems.
If you in many parts of East Godavari and west Godavari particularly in Central Delta, we find only churchs, It looks like mini Kerala.
you don’t find temples. Every sunday we’ll see very big masses.
ఏదైనా కష్టం వస్తే ఆదరించే దిక్కులేదు. గుడిలోకి వెళితే, పూజలు, కొబ్బరికాయలు వాటికి దక్షిణలు,అంట డబ్బు మయం. లేని వాడి పరిస్తితి ఏమిటి. గ్రహ చారం బాగుండక జాతకం దెగ్గరకు వెళితే కాలసర్ప యోగాలు, రత్నాలు, రుద్రాక్షలు అంటూ వేలకు వేలు చెప్పడం. ఒక్క స్వామిజి అయిన వాళ్లకు ఓదార్పు మాటలు చెపుతారా, పాదపూజలకు డబ్బులు. వాళ్ళ పేటలకు వెల్ల తారా. ఈ నాటికి దేవాలయములలోకి వాళ్ళను రానీరు. ఇదంతా మనం చేసినదే. రామ రధాలు గుళ్ళ చుట్టూ, ఉన్నవారి చుట్టూ తిరుగుతాయి. ఇక రాజకీయాలలో హిందువులు అంత పనికి మాలిని వాళ్ళు లేరు. యచకః యాచకో శత్రు: . ఓట్లకోసం దేవుళ్ళను చంపేయడానికి వెనుకాడరు. అంతా మన ఖర్మ. రామ అంటే రాజకీయం. దళితులు వినాయక చవితి చేసుకుని దేముడిని నిమజ్జనం చేద్దామని చెరువుకు వెళితే వాళ్ళను ఆ ప్రాంతంకు రాకుడదని ఆంక్షలు. వాళ్ళు ఏమ్చేస్తారు.ఇది కర్నూల్ జిల్లలో జరిగింది.
అయ్యా ఇవి ఆలోచించండి. ఒక్క ఏడాది కాదు ఒక దశాబ్దం అందరు అటు అడుగు వేస్తె సమస్య పరిష్కారం అవుతుంది. ధర్మో రక్షతి రక్షితా, జై భారత్.

We should not forget that so called lower caste Hindus are our brothers.They should be given all possible help in all matters.Actually there is no such higher or lower concept in Humanity as such. There should not be any discrimination against them .In Hinduism all are equal.No Hindu scripture advocate discrimination on the basis of caste system.All are entitled to enter any Hindu temple anywhere in the world.If it happens anywhere it is because of the priest of that temple.Its is the responsibility of upper caste educated Hindus to oppose this type of practice immediately. If we help our brothers (other caste Hindus)we can easily defeat nefarious design of these, so called Christian missionaries & Muslim Ulemas.

  There was no ‘Caste System’ in Bhaarath before the Christians came over. The divide and rule idea was brought into Bhaarath by causing division or caste to institute Christianity. Nevertheless they were unsuccessful all these centuries but they are working very hard still. They misrepresented ‘Varnashram’ as caste which is a bold-faced lie!

Christians never hatred Hindus or anyone. Jesus Christ said love your neighbours. But Christians know the truth, they are informing others and spreading about Jesus Christ that the only way to reach Heaven and see God. It doesnt mean not criticize others.

  (1) For seven-year-old Shreema, 13th Jan 2002 was a special Sunday. All through the year, the girl had awaited the dawn of this day. For, that was the day one goes out and purchases new clothes, new toys and sweets, as the next day would be Makar Sankranthi — the harvest festival celebrated throughout India. The Singicherra Bazar was bustling with activity. Like Shreema’s family there were many people looking forward to a happy Makar Sankranthi. But they didn’t realise that they were violating a fatwa issued by the Baptist Church-created Christian Al-Qaeda, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT). Nor did they know that they would pay with their lives for celebrating a heathen festival of their motherland. Shreema would never again celebrate Makar Sankranthi. She died, along with sixteen others, on the spot as 13 terrorists of the NLFT encircled the people shopping for the festival and fired indiscriminately1. The soldiers of Christ have done again in Tripura what they have been doing for centuries to heathens throughout the world. The Baptist Church of Tripura is not just the ideological mentor of the NLFT; it also supplies the NLFT with arms and ammunition for the soldiers of the holy crusade2. Never mind that the holy war involves killing infants and torching the huts of ‘heathen Hindoos’. The NLFT does all these to bring to the infidels the peace and love of Christ. So, when Nagmanlal Halam, secretary of the Noapara Baptist Church in Tripura, was arrested by the Tripura police he had rather curious tools for evangelisation, which included along with the gospel 50 gelatin sticks, 5 kg of potassium and 2 kg of sulphur and other ingredients for making explosives. Mr. Halam confessed that his activities for the saving the heathen souls involved buying and supplying explosives to the NLFT over the past two years. Another church official, Jatna Koloi, who was also arrested, admitted that he received training in guerrilla warfare at an NLFT base last year. Surely, gelatin and AK-47s have more efficiency when it comes to bringing the light of the only revealed truth to the disbelievers suffering in ‘spiritual darkness’. Those who are in doubt can check it out with another great light-bearer of the other ‘only true book’, Osama bin Laden (that is, when and if the prophet of terror is captured). The Baptist Church of Tripura was initially set up by proselytizers from New Zealand 60 years ago. Despite their efforts, even until 1980, only a few thousand people in Tripura had converted to Christianity. Then the Church used one of its most efficient and time-tested weapons of evangelisation — creating racial and ethnic divide among the people. In the aftermath of one of the worst ethnic riots, engineered by the Church3, the NLFT was born — but not without the midwife role of the Baptist Church. From its very inception, the NLFT has been advancing the cause of Christianity through armed persuasion. Every trace of indigenous culture is being eliminated through violent means. Every resisting group is made to bleed its way to extinction. The case of Jamatya tribals provides a telling example. These tribals have strong spiritual leaders and a network of social service organisations headed by their religious leaders. These indigenous sects are neither exclusive nor expansionist. The Baptist Church has always failed miserably in its conversion efforts with regard to this well-knit community. Hence, it is no wonder that the NLFT has made Jamatya institutions and their religious leaders the targets of their attacks. In the August of 2000, religious leaders of the Jamatya community like Jaulushmoni Jamatya and Shanti Kumar Tripura were killed by the NLFT, and Jamatya families were uprooted from their homelands and made refugees. The death threats issued by the NLFT to the inmates of these institutions have already forced the closure of 11 Jamatya institutions like schools and orphanages, set up by the slain religious leaders in various parts of Tripura4. Interestingly, these tribals are not close-minded fanatics. For one thing, they do not mind teaching the theory of evolution in their schools. The greatest challenge to the Bible inspired mission of the NLFT comes from the Sangh Parivar’s Banbasi Kalyan Kendra. The dedicated life workers of RSS have started empowering the tribals by running many educational institutions which while empowering them through imparting secular technical education also retain their tribal cultural and spiritual identity. Rather than making them disown their roots, the Kendra made the tribals feel proud of their culture. It even conducts national level tribal sports festivals. If the NLFT is to carve out a kingdom for Christ out of the secular republic of India, it has to make sure that the Kendra activities are stopped at all costs. In July 2000, armed NLFT militants torched a residential school and students hostel run by the Seva Mission in the remote Ananda Bazar area of North Tripura5. They had also taken hostage four RSS life workers. These RSS workers were all in their sixties. The crime committed by these old men was that they had dared to run educational institutions for tribals while preserving the tribals’ culture. Later, all four were killed by the NLFT. The NLFT has been an active partner of the Baptist Church in winning converts to the Christian creed. They have killed tribal priests to threaten communities and effect mass conversions. But those tactics have obviously backfired. In 2001 alone, the NLFT killed more than 20 Hindus who refused to ‘accept the love of Christ’. They also torched to death a Hindu family sleeping in a hut6. In 2001, community chiefs and religious heads of 19 tribes formed the ‘Tribal Culture Protection Committee’ to counter the threat posed by the NLFT7. Despite the NLFT taking all possible steps to enforce conversions, the conversions are still slow. Frustrated, the NLFT has now begun an all out war against Hindu tribals. They have issued fatwas against infidel activities. These fatwas prohibit people from celebrating festivals like Durga Pooja and Makar Sankranthi, listening to Indian music, watching Indian TV channels and films, and prohibit women from wearing bangles or sporting bindis, etc. Just a year before the NLFT started all these atrocities in India, the Southern Baptist Church of the United States of America had given a clarion call to bring the light of the gospel to “millions of Hindus and Jews lost in the darkness” of their religions8. >Shreema, the seven-year-old girl from Tripura, died with bullets pumped into her tender body. Her crime was that she violated the Christian fatwa which prohibited her from celebrating an Indian festival. She was not just a victim of barbaric terrorism but she is also a martyr for Indian culture, a culture that has preserved thousands of tribal customs from barbaric persecution. Yet, she will not make it to the glossy covers of the weekly magazines of English speaking Indian media. Unsubstantiated, fabricated stories of Hindu fundamentalists (an oxymoron) killing Christian priests have been making their headlines. However, these fabrications have their use. They do help in the covering up of such acts of Christian love like killing in cold blood a seven-year-old girl or burning a family to death.

  Widespread anger was expressed throughout the State over the brutal killing of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his associates.
  
  The VHP and Bajrang Dal activists burned tyres and blocked traffic in different parts of the State to ventilate their anger on the failure of the police to give protection to Swamji. He had lodged an FIR on the local police station that his life was under threat and had sought police protection. Within 26 hours of lodging the complaint, he and his disciples were killed at Jalespata Ashram under Tumudibandh block in Kandhamal district on Saturday night.
  
  Fearing a backlash, the Kandhamal district administration clamped curfew in Phulbani town and prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC throughout the district. All borders of the district were sealed. However, defying the orders, disciples of the Swami took out the Swami’s funeral procession to another ashram at Chakapada, which is nearly 100 km away from Jalespata Ashram. More than 10,000 mourners reportedly accompanied the funeral procession. The funeral procession went through Jalespata, Tumudibandh, Paramapanka, Baataguda and reached Baliguda at 3 pm. It was supposed to go through Nuaagaan, Sarangagada, Phiringia, Bisipada Chhak and Tikabali to reach his Karmabhumi Chakapada late in night.
  
  The people bid farewell to the departed souls with tears. People in Baliguda could not control their emotions and they even attacked the police and burnt a number of vehicles. Police had to resort to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. Reports reaching Bhubaneswar said the people were dead against the police inaction.
  
  VHP activists allegedly burnt down a Marshal jeep OR 07 G 5882 carrying Sisters at G Udayagiri. The Sisters were allowed to leave the vehicle, said sources. Similarly, hundreds of supporters of Swamiji were moving to Tumudibandh with agitated mood, where his body was kept for last darshan.
  
  In order to save its face, the district administration suspended the officer-in-charge of the Tumudibandh Police Station. However, it did not calm the anger of local people. They demanded that action should be taken against the District Collector and the SP. “Swamji had himself lodged the FIR. But the district administration could not react promptly to protect the precious lives,” said Sudarshan Bhoi, a local of Tumudibandh area.
  
  Reacting over the issue, the VHP and the Bajrang Dal have called for a dawn-to-dusk Orissa bandh. The BJP State unit has announced to support the bandh. In a bid to avoid further violence, the Government has ordered closure of all schools and colleges on Monday.
  
  In order to take stock of the situation, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday morning convened a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat. “All efforts would be made to arrest the culprit,” he said, adding that additional police force has been mobilised and combing operation is on to nab the culprit. Police sources said 20 platoons of police force and four companies of CRPF have been mobilised to the spot.
  
  Patnaik also ordered a judicial probe into the incident and announced that Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia would be given to the next of kin of the deceased.
  
  The situation in the tribal dominated Kandhamal district “is tense but under control” after the killing of the VHP activists last night by unidentified attackers, Kandhamal District Collector Krishan Kumar claimed.
  
  Meanwhile, a small thatched structure used as a prayer house was set afire by unidentified persons late on Saturday night at Tentulijhari in Sundargarh district, Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Pranabindu Acharya said.
  
  The police have arrested Pradesh Kumar Das, an employee of the World Vision, a Christian Charity, from Khadagpur while escaping from the district at Buguda. In another drive, two other persons Vikram Digal and William Digal have been arrested from the house of Lal Digal, a local militant Christian, from Nuasahi at Gunjibadi, Nuagaan. They have admitted to having joined a group of 28 other assailants.

      In john 3.16 jesus says “for god so loved the world so much that he gave his only son” and Jesus said in matthew 5.9 “peacemakers will be called sons of god” And the same jesus says in matthew 10:34 “I came NOT to bring PEACE but trouble.” jesus himself says ‘a family divided will ruin’ and the same jesus says i am here to divide families- so jesus is truly ruinious!         @ Nitin..you are right in a way…One of the ways the Christianity spread is by the sword…But not as you think…It is by the martyrdom of first Christians for 1st, 2nd and 3rd centuries. They faced the sword and embraced death. They did not retaliate back. IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE THE TRUTH SEE THE WHOLE PICTURE. NOT A SELECTED EVENTS TAUGHT BY YOUR GURUS.
        There are many Christians killed by Hindu Militants in India…Should we blame Hinduism for that or blame those individuals who understood Hinduism wrongly and killed Christians? Those crusaders were murderers using the name of religion for their evil intentions. They were not true Christians. We Christians do not blame Hinduism for 2008 killings in Odisha and in Gujarat in 2001 and 2002.

      Dear John, we don’t necessarily hate Christians either. But the antics and obscene demonstration of Christianity here fills our heart nothing but contempt and hatred. Why don’t you report such sick practices yourself to your peers so as to preserve the sanity among Christians? Being a Christian, it should be your duty to report such incidents and vile methods to increase the numbers. Unless such actions are taken, days are not far when the Hindus would take actions that would be worse for all of us.

    but i may not agree to the word “FIGHT” as i am a man of peace & i personally believe that conflict can only be solved by peace
    so all we can do is pray for the peace in India for god is a most all-powerful being & he can establish peace for he is real god & we don’t have to fight for it.
    
    & every person in the world believes “my(his) religion is the best religion and the oldest religion” but we need to also have a heart for other people with different faith or else there will a great unrest in the whole world & a great war & disturbance and no-one in the world will survive.

      Vinodh Kumar, Sir, It is good for me to see what you perceive about Christianity, however misbegotten. Even so, your willful misunderstanding is sad to me. The true meaning of these scriptures has been hidden from you due to your hard heart, so It seems that you are unlikely to change your views. Therefore, I can only act in accordance with what Lord Jesus says in Mathew 7:6.
      
      Nevertheless, I pray that you will come to realize the error of your way and pray to the one True God for forgiveness and repent of your spite before it is too late.     The question needs to be asked, “Why does the government give grants to schools run by christian organisations?”. In doing so, you are not only abetting their nefarious motives but are also pushing innocent, impressionable Hindu youngsters towards Western culture and thereby open to discarding their Hindu values.
    
    It must also be known that in these Christian schools, students are often forced to mouth Christian prayers and ideals – many of which are in total opposition to Indian culture. And yet, when something as innocent as yoga is introduced in any curriculum, these very Christian schools claim that it is against their culture and beliefs!!

        In John 6:51 Jesus said: “The bread that I will give him is my flesh, which I give so that the world may live.” But when someone actually takes the bread, it is Satan that enters into him. “So he took a piece of bread, dipped it, and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. AS SOON AS JUDAS TOOK THE BREAD, SATAN ENTERED INTO HIM” (John 13:26-27). Instead of Jesus, Satan drops in when a person actually receives the bread given to him by Jesus. I would like you to know how many of you know the difference between Catholics and Protestant Christians. Though both the sections can be called “Christians” both are totally different in their identity. In fact, it’s the Protestant Church who initiate the so called allegations of conversion and not Catholics. But, Catholics are always seen in the forefront of all the Social Works and therefore everyone tags everything on the Catholics while they are innocent. And I vehemently oppose your idea of Christians Spreading Hatred. In no way. By taking a video clip (which can be totally forged for the sake of making enemity) you cannot say that all Christians do the same. Look at the role of Christians in the Development of Our Nation. Are they not on the forefront to eradicate illiteracy and to provide better health? If the Christians were on a rage after conversion then why have they not crossed the 2.4% margin even after 50 years of Independence? What’s their number now? from 2.4% it downsized to 2.3% together with Hindus who came down from 83.4 to 80.5% while Muslims increased from 10.7% to 14%. So do you mean to say that Christians are the reasons behind this? I think you’re not really angry with Christians but as a blog which strives to unite Hindus it’s your duty to find fault with other religions and bring hatred. Because, hatred is the best weapon to destroy any community. How can Christians spread hatred when Jesus tells “Love your fellowmen”? Missionary Charity Sisters do not convert anyone to Christianity. They take care of the abandoned as they are and when they die, are given the same death ceremony according to the person’s religion and not according to Christianity. Can you find a large area churchyard to bury all those dead in their centres? Either that you’re jealous of your inability to start such a great pious venture or just to bring hatred against Christians to meet your personal vendetta. I wish if you would thing out of your box and look at the reality. I am totally against Christians converting Hindus and I never support it nor the Catholic Church. Don’t blame the Catholics for the wrong doings Protestant Church people. Finally, don’t compare Christians with Muslims and their works, we are totally different and will remain so till the end of the world. We Love Christ and We Love India. You cannot find a single Catholic getting involved in anything to destroy the Nation. We work for the progress of the nation. We are, we were and we will do only good to the nation and you really know it.     I really understand your concern and worries about conversion and I am totally against it. I say this not just for name’s sake, but from heart. Still, I would like to bring one fact to your kind notice that Britishers ruled the country for 200 years and still Christians remain as 2.3%. If you look into the Christians in Pakistan (I mean, India before independence) the total would not be more than 3%. But, you look at the growth of Muslim population in India, (include the population of Pakistan too, they were part of India) and if you read between the lines of history you would find one truth that had Britishers not come here, India would have been a Muslim state. Do you have any doubt about it? Even after independence Muslim population grew from 10.7 to 14. Take the sum of the Muslim population of Pakistan and India and then you’ll get the real picture of conversion. So, beware of the real enemy. Had the Catholics resorted to conversion then how could the population come down from 2.4 to 2.3%? Even in Kerala, Christian population came down from 20% to 19 while Muslims rose from 20 to 25%. And, I wonder why this forced conversion of Mughal Empires, which harmed India the most, is not at all mentioned in any of the history text in India. Remember that there was no country called India before the arrival of Britishers, rather, the present India was a collection of thousands of kingdoms ruled by kings though everyone had hindu belief. So, it was easy for the Mughal Empires to defeat one kingdom after another and convert. Now, after Britishers came to India, they defeated all Mughal Emperors and we have such a vast land called India and they brought all those regions under one name where Hindu belief and practices are held. So, i would say that Britishers are the real savior of Hinduism. Today, 65 years after independence, after getting so much of education, now the hindus come to realise their power and their need for unity. It’s high time to be united. Stand united and stay united. All i wish you to do is to look at facts and figures as they are and use your intellect and education at truth and not at distorted facts. It’s the 2.3% of Christians who own 33% of educational institutions in India, which means, the main reason for the intellectual development (education) in India.
    Together with you I oppose religious conversion. After all, what’s the use of converting people if they don’t live well? I am all the more realistic and understand your concern. As you said, I too am against conversion.

  I think I am too late to comment but since I stumbled upon this article and comments, I thought it might just open the eyes of those people who in my opinion are slaves even after independence.
  
  You fight between Catholic & Protestants when you say both worship the same God and claim Catholics are very humble. At the end both follow same Bible right ? May be those Protestants are bad. But do you really believe that Catholic stuff is super cool.
  
  Read your Bible by yourself with eyes in the brain rather than in the knees. Read some lovely verses such as : Matthew 10:34, Matthew 10:37 to Matthew 10:39, Luke 9:23 to Luke 9:26, Luke 9:27, Luke 9:57 to Luke 9:62, Luke 12:41 to Luke 12:53, Luke 12:49, John 8.21 and 8.23 where it says crap like hate your family to follow me, I have come to divide the world, I have not come to bring peace on earth, how to treat slaves, if you don’t follow me you will die in your sin, if you follow me you will never see death (LOL- this is the most silliest) etc. These take care of the peaceful part of Christianity which Christ seems to have spoken by his own mouth.
  
  Now to talk more specifically about Catholics, read “Canon Law” which clearly forbids even marriages of other religions as invalid and tells about DANGERS of moving away from the faith. They don’t even encourage marrying Protestants, so tell me, how peace loving you are when you don’t allow two people of your same religion to marry each other if they actually love each other. The law also ensures people are scared enough to even not let their kids deviate from being Catholics. Everywhere in the world and more specifically In India, people who crave power and money have played around with dumb headed fools who think that following certain religion will lead them to God or give them a great life or whatever. The truth is that if people ignore all this crap and simply try to be nice to everyone, be selfless and consider everyone equal, before thinking of achieving a luxurious life for themselves- if they care for fulfilling the basic necessities of the needy, we will never need a religion or some fake God to pray to and people like us who don’t even know each other would not be quarreling over anything. Imagine if there was no such bullshit and we met each other. I am sure even though we would be strangers, we would at least smile at each other. That’s how the world should be.

In doing so, you are not only abetting their nefarious motives but are also pushing innocent, impressionable Hindu youngsters towards Western culture and thereby open to discarding their Hindu values.
  
  It must also be known that in these Christian schools, students are often forced to mouth Christian prayers and ideals – many of which are in total opposition to Indian culture.   I’ll have to agree and disagree with you. First yes there are problems with churches like all other religious institiutions few men are behind power, money and other vices but regulated using its mechanisms. However there is a new breed of start-up churches who are hell bend on conversion and stuff which is absoutely bad which i’d seen in andhra.Acceptance of prasad and stuff is no for them but I used not only have prasad but also take part in pujas. The good thing is I don’t know about your place but where i stay i’ve been to orphanages and old age homes and they look after people very well. I am their critic and is always on look out for conversion or flouting rules but they run it better than government agencies. My mother volunteers at an orphanage the authorities were so impressed by the standards they said they have never seen so much care and facilites. I have to say some places they are harsh but are much beter than their relatives. An old age home inmate was taken aback when i secretly asked him if things are well ….he said i’m vinod a hindu and i’m absolutely fine here. I sincerely hope fanatics to have a change of heart soon. As you must have guess i”m a christian by birth but agnost by choice.

  You are correct Madam. I see sikhs always helping out when there is a need. They dont publicize it for getting attention nor do they ask anyone to convert. Infact hardly any other religion asks to convert except 2 of them which everyone knows. Even if you want to marry any of those people you have to accept their religion. This is written in their holy books and laws, but in Hindus we dont force such thing nor i believe there is anything written. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Christianity in Kerala and their hoax stories and false claim of high caste origin.

There was a steady influx of Middle Eastern immigrants, Arabs, Persians, Syrians and others from Central Asia, long before the birth of Christianity and Islam. A very extensive trade and economic link existed directly between Kerala and the Middle East since time immemorial. The Jews claim that the first Jew arrived in Kochi in King Solomon’s merchant fleet (970B.C.). Logan assumes: “Perhaps as early as the time of Moses, the great Jewish law-giver, this commerce existed, for cinnamon and cassia played a part in the temple services of the Jews.” The Chinese and Arabs were among the prominent foreign nationals who traded with the Zamorin of Calicut, St. Thomas would have converted these immigrants. When Ibn Batuta visited the Malabar Coast he found merchants not only from Arabia and Egypt, but also from Zanzibar and Ethiopia and even Tunis. It is likely St.Thomas would have converted many of these immigrants. In a caste-ridden, superstitious and conservative society, it was impossible to get higher caste Hindus to marry the immigrants. The wives and concubines of the immigrants were from untouchable castes such as Mukkuvas,Pariahs and Ezhavas. Kerala rulers allowed the wives and children of immigrants to enjoy some of the privileges of higher castes. Conversion of the families of immigrants by St. Thomas is wrongly interpreted as conversion of Nambboodiris, although there were no Namboodiris at the time of his arrival (1st Century AD). Earlier texts such as” Thomma Parvam “are all not contemporary accounts of 1st Century A.D. but later accounts after a lapse of several hundred years, and therefore, are mere exaggeration, fabrication and imaginary. But it is a historical fact that, before the arrival of European powers, Christian immigrants and their native descendants of Kerala had links with Eastern Christianity that flourished at that time in Mesopotamia, Assyria, Syria (Aramea), Phoenicia and Egypt. The contact was only occasional due to difficulties in travel and political anarchy that prevailed in the Middle East. The arrival of Thomas of Cana with 400 men increased Christian population when he and his companions married local women belonging to untouchable castes. He is portrayed as a Jew by some Syrian Christian families, but Armenian records and Portuguese accounts categorically say that he was an Armenian merchant.
Most studies of social change in Kerala have focused on the institution of caste and the extent of social mobility of various castes. Syrians at the time of the arrival of colonial powers were landless and they were not even peasant cultivators. Political and social exigencies of the period compelled them to increase Syrian Christian population by large scale conversion of lower castes, outcastes and slaves by Metrans and church leaders. Syrian Bishop Mar Coorilos met Grant Duff, the Governor of Madras, at Calicut in January 1882 and gave him a lengthy account of Syrians in Kerala. He told him, “This Christian community subsisted and gradually increased, both by its intrinsic elements and by the admission of new converts, from the people living in the neighborhoods of Syrian churches.” (Ref. So, even before the arrival of European powers, native Syrian church had converted many local people who were not Brahmins or Nairs but only lower castes (mainly coastal mukkuvas and Ezhavas) who were known as untouchables.

According to Syrian Christian tradition St. Thomas came to Kerala in 52 A.D., and converted some Nambudiri Brahmin families such as Kalli, Kaliankara, Sankarapuri, Madapur, Vyampalli, Muttedal, Kottakara, Panakamattom, and Pakalomattom . These names of Nambudiri families are fictitious and cannot be traced in any of the records of Nambudiri Brahmins. Besides, this tradition evolved at a much later date and was not a contemporary account. These fictional names are being maintained to legitimize fanciful claims. Syrian Christian tradition and many other legends found in ancient Christian songs like the “Veeradian Pattu, Thomma Parvom,” and Margom Kali Pattu, claim conversion of Nambudiri Brahmins by St. Thomas. But all these songs originated after more than thousand years or much later, and not composed in the first century when St.Thomas was in Kerala. Conflicting dates, AD 1601 and AD 1792, assigned to these works give room for suspicion about their authenticity, the language used in these songs are “Vattezhthu” that comes only after the 17th century. Even the composer’s name, Ramban Thomas, alleged to be a Nambudiri Brahmin, is highly doubtful as there was no such person in Nambudiri records. The notable document concerning St Thomas is the ‘Acta Thoma’ attributed to a Syrian named Bardasanes , an apocryphal work bearing transparent signs of its Gnostic origin. It was preserved with some modifications in Greek and in Syriac. It also tells about the missionary activities of St. Thomas and his martyrdom. But this work too was of a later origin and different dates are given by scholars, AD 220 or AD 400. According to another Syrian Christian tradition four Nambudiri families of Niranam, Tayyil, Pattamukkil, Manki and Madathilen of Thiruvalla were converted by St.Thomas. But there is no historical evidence about these Nambudiri settlements in Thiruvalla in the 1st century AD. It is probable that some fugitive St Thomas Christians of Mylapore or lower caste converts would have used these fabricated names with the false claim they were Nambudiri converts to avoid persecution by caste-Hindus. None of the Nambudiri records has also any reference to the existence of converted Nambudiri settlements in Thiruvalla in the 1st century AD or the conversion of their community members. Even in the Brahmin tradition found in Keralolpatti there is no reference at all to the conversion of Nambudiris, although it tells about a certain ‘Thomman,’ an opponent of all Vedas’, came to Malabar and ‘converted many prominent people in the land, including the reigning king, Bana Perumal. But Keralolpatti, embellished with myths and legends, was a compilation of 18th century to bolster the superiority and authority of Brahmins in Kerala and not a contemporary narration. It is likely that the Mylapore migrants and local converts, mostly untouchables such as Ezhavas and other outcastes, who moved into Thiruvalla from other areas coined new family names or adopted locality names of Niranam, Tayyil, Pattamukil, Manki and Madathilen and claimed for themselves superior status to hide their past. It must be borne in mind that the converted untouchables and slaves were fleeing from their original places to other areas to escape persecution and punishment. With no Nambudiri or Nayar available for conversion in Thiruvalla and nearby regions, the emergence of a large Syrian population in that region is a clear proof that they were all from lower castes.

The claim for the existence of Nambudiri Christian settlements in Thiruvalla was a mixture of fable, hearsay and calculated false propaganda which has made even foreign writers think that it was a fact of history. It is a stark reality that it was due to large scale conversion of untouchables, especially Ezhavas that Christian settlements arose in those areas. Logan points out that the Nambudhiri settlements were mostly in the Calicut, Ernad, Walluvanad and Ponnani taluks of Malabar, and in the Cochin territory in North Travancore. No Nambudiri family of pure birth had settled to the south of the Kollam River in the 1st century AD. Francis Day and Samuel Mateer also affirm that the Travancore Rajas have “in vain tried every means in their power to induce them to reside there.” It is quite improbable, therefore, that Nambudiri settlements existed in Thiruvalla area when St. Thomas or at a later period when Thomas of Cana came to Kerala. Missionary records give us an idea of how new settlements of lower caste and untouchable Christians came into existence in different places and how those converts were tutored to assume for themselves the status of higher castes just to escape persecution by upper caste Hindus. As S.N. Sadasivan, an eminent research scholar who has gone through missionary records, points out: “From the beginning it was the practice of the converts to leave their native village and settle down in a place normally few miles away or as a distant station as possible and to take up avocations other than that of their caste for intelligible reasons. It has enabled them to conceal their past, sever from their close relations and claim a status better than that of their unconverted brethren still struggling to stand up against their neighboring caste-Hindus, in the new environment they had chosen. The first missionary who understood this social value of this mobility and anonymity was Joseph Peet , ( the missionary actively converted lot of Ezhavas in the Mavelikara area and settled them near some trees and there family name comes like “Painummood, Alummood ,Thengumootil “etc ) who always for the safety of his converts from slave caste sent them to other places where they could make new claims and build up a better image for themselves.”
West Asian merchants (Jews, Phoenicians, Romans, Persians, Arabs etc.) who visited Kerala shores from time immemorial and women of Kerala origin (mostly from lower castes – since the powerful classes, as is the practice even now, never gave their women in marriage to strangers). The Muslim ‘Moppilas’ of Malabar have no problem accepting this fact because Muslims, having been rulers of India for nearly a thousand years never had to face any discrimination from caste Hindus. Also, Muslim religious leaders, unlike Syrian Christian priests and Bishops, generally discourage caste, race or ethnic consciousness among their folk. Not so with Syrian Christian ‘mappilas’ (mappila stands for son-in-law in Tamil and Malayalam too). till recently, the vast majority of them were at the level of serfs and peasants living off the mercy of the feudal rulers and landed gentry of Kerala as subalterns to them (with hard work, no doubt).Getting early access to modern education, thanks to the British missionaries, they found themselves in the professions and businesses much earlier than even many upper caste Hindus and the one thing to secure acceptance and social respectability in the prevailing feudal milieu was a claim to ancestry high enough in the social hierarchy; and here comes handy the fiction of Brahmin conversion et al as invented in the 16th century by the vested interests among their clergy and helped in its propagation by the Portuguese who reached Kerala then and their Religious masters in the hierarchy of the day in Rome(of course with the intention to grind their own religious axes in India) (Ref.
Syrian Christians were clubbed with lower castes and they had to do “ oozhiyam “service in Temples and Nair , Namputhiri agricultural lands . Travancore History archive says: Dewan Peishcar Reddy Row was appointed Dewan in Kanni 993 M.E. (September 1817 A.D). Having attained the object of his ambition, he with the help of Col. Munro, the British Resident , tried to distinguish himself in his new office. Several enactments were passed in the form of Royal Proclamations relieving the people from obnoxious imposts and restrictions. Chief among them were:- The Christian ryots were relieved from their “Oozhiyam” service of all description connected with the Hindu religious ceremonies. They were also exempted from attending to public work on Sundays.

Between Cottayam and Trichoor, a distance of about 70 miles, a great 6eld for Christian labour lies open, for which the Aiwaye Itineracy has been established. At Miivittupulay and Todupulay there are large numbers of Syrians, poor, hard- working, and kind people, renting lands from the Nambiiri and Nair landlords, for which they pay four or five times the seed sown, and cultivating areca palms and the fruits, roots, and grains on which they live. They have no Scriptures or other books, and
few schools. Nor is there a Sirkar District school at either of the two district towns just mentioned. The priests conduct service and go off to their houses; sometimes indeed there is no one to hold worship in the churches. The surrounding populations have very little Idea as to what God the Syrians
worship, or how.

The ignorance and spiritual darkness of these poor nominal Christians is very great. On a tour in that quarter not long ago to see the country, I very carefully and cautiously examined
those whom I met, or stayed with, as to their knowledge of Christian truth. It was heart-rending to learn of the criminal indifference and negligence of the priests, and to find old men and young quite ignorant, not only of the Scriptures, which they never read nor hear read, but even as to who Jesus Christ

John, I apologize on behalf of the Hindus here. They are mixing what the Missionaries and Indian Christians. The ones I know are genuinely embarrassed with the sly ways Missionaries are converting poor or uneducated Hindus. Muslims have wiped off Hindus in Pakistan and now they target Christians. Jews and Zoroastrians follow a religion that was not born here either but they have never faced any discrimination. We are not intolerant but we can not sit and watch our country being taken over. There was a time you fought the Crusades The same is happening today minus the blood. That will change once their numbers rise. It always has. Can’t you see the pattern in what the ISIS, Mughals and Ottomans. We can freely move around in areas where the other is in majority but can you say the same about a Muslim area. There are no go zones in European cities today. The only altercation between us is the malpractices of the Missionaries. It is foolish of us to not address the larger threat. I am a proud Hindu but I don’t want us to be 100% of the population in the interest of the country. Imagine a society where the proportion of Muslims and Christians is replaced. The reason I pick Christianity is because it is an Abrahamic religion as well(Muslims recognize Jesus as a Prophet) and has the potential for proselytizing rapidly. I prefer 14% of my country follows a Prophet who sacrificed his life for humanity to one who raped, murdered and enslaved.
We should enter in an agreement with Christian Missionaries that they convert Muslims only. We will give protection to them for this. Islam is a common threat. We will receive support from outside as well. Lets see how the TMC and Company will blame Hindus. The average Christian does not hate Hindus whereas the average Muslim will always thirst for our blood. The Quran instructs Muslims to kill pagans, idolaters,polytheists and dominate people of the book. It’s easier for a Muslim to convert to Christianity because the commandments are common and the Quran recognises Christ as a Prophet. In fact the only decent chapter in the Quran is about Mother Mary. Hindus live peacefully in Christian lands. We can co exist. A sizeable minority of Christians is any day better than these Muslims.

These Syrian Christians claim all sorts of ancestry. Mostly they come form Ezhavas converting to avoid persecution. In USA they claim that they descended from jews whereas in kerala they claim Nambudiri ancestry
These guys got kudikidappu avakasham from Nairs and Nambudiris. They had to perform Oozhiyam in Travancore- a form of forced labor which was stopped in 1817. Ezhavas who were traditional liquor brewers were converted to christianity. Even upper caste nairs and nambudiris converted when they were ostracise for comming in contact with lower caste. And it existed long before Jesus was born on earth. Today slavery is still practiced by Muslims in Africa & the Middle East, criminals worldwide, and it exists in China where the communist government has facilities in which people are kept alive in order to one day harvest their vital organs. I thank all of you for your posts to this “Christianity In India” blog over the years. It is very helpful to me. I am an American Christian in the Baptist tradition, and with my wife we have a ministry in the Rajamundry area of Andhra Pradesh. We have been to India 8 times over that past 10 years, and plan to return again in 2018, as God provides. We go there to do good works for people so that they might praise God in Heaven. Hindu, Muslim, and Christian people benefit from our many projects.

I am very sad to read about the forced conversions and ungodly behavior attributed to Christians who do evil things. God by his Son, Jesus via the Holy Spirt wants all to come to a knowledge of him by their own volition, never forcibly. Such is not God’s way. He gives all mankind free will and adequate information to decide what to believe and whom to follow. Every person will be judged after death by Jesus himself, both Christian and non Christian on the issue of whether one believed in the One True God while on earth.

Do not blame God for the evil men do.

Although I would like to refute the mistakes and misunderstandings about Christianity (such as cannibalism & family hatred) that are in this blog I think that it would be unproductive. Minds have been made up. However, I do pray that each of you who has not yet accepted Jesus as Lord of all would someday come to that saving knowledge regardless of the cost before it is too late. Every person shall give an individual account to God for what one believes and what one has done while on earth.

Ask God for the faith to believe in him, and he will be merciful and give that measure of faith to you.

Judgement will come to you one day and you will be required to give an account to him, and will be dealt with accordingly. As for your questions about Jesus who is surely the Son of God I suggest that you find a local church and ask them of a Pastor; I suggest a good Baptist Church. Your knowledge is misbegotten at this point. Perhaps you are truly ignorant, or perhaps you are a minion of the Evil One who seeks to destroy. Where we go in India is poverty stricken and in need of help. We are praised by Hindu high caste & Dalits, Muslim, and Christian for the love of Jesus that we demonstrate. We do this in order that people will see our good works and praise God in Heaven which, by the way, is not imaginary. True conversion cannot be coerced, and will not last if it is based upon falsehoods. Slavery is man made, not of the Lord God. I pray for your salvation from the wrath to come, Billy. Jesus who compares his coming to lightning, says at Luke 10:18, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” Likening Satan, or more correctly Lucifer, with lightning and then likening himself with the same lightning, Jesus gives a hint here that he and Satan, or more specifically Lucifer, are identical.

    Also my father is and me(only sometimes) are indulging in various social work, but never have I ever mention my beliefs to them. Also why do you believe that jesus is the god ? just because a book told you so. Also evolution completely dismisses many claims of bible, so why would you believe in something that is incoherent with modern times.
    The western things you talk about are empirical things, you cannot substitute it with a faith based system which we Indians too have. Also what evidence do you have of jesus being the son of god ? and please don’t say bible,coz anyone can just write anything but that doesn’t make it true.

I am South Korean. When I young, I was a christian and I didn’t like other religions. In fact, even in this time, not a little pastors of Korean church claim that every other gods of other religions and other myths are devils. They said, even Dalai Lama is a ‘swindler’ for people, and Goddess Kali is just an ‘evil spirit’. However, I do not agree their opinions and creeds no more. Of course, I respet Jesus Christ -my past God- even now; I have a preference both of Bhagavan Sri Ram and Bhagavan Sri Krishna as ‘Truth’ itself for me. I love to read Holly Bible for the spirit; however, I prefer to read Bhagavad Gita and Ramcharitmanas (both of those are divine scriptures of Hindusim) nowadays. Sorry, my English is very short yet, then I cannot show my opinion beyond it. Have a nice day to all of you.

Kumar, What religion do you follow? You quote the Old Testament Bible as though you understand. Sadly, you are misguided. For me to explain would take time, and I suspect you would not pay attention. However, if you are sincerely interested, it is best that you seek understanding in a local, non-Catholic church. I suggest a Baptist one.

Next, you question what God has done and is doing in the world as though you are in a position to question him. Such is unwise. You will give an account to him for your words on the day of your death. I suggest you study the book of Job who lived in a time before the Patriarchs of the Jewish nation, long before the advent of Jesus who is the Son of God.

And finally, you seem to blame God for what men do on earth. Mankind is given free will to follow God or follow their own way which is usually evil. It is nonsense to hold God accountable for what people do. Your eternal soul is at stake here. I suggest you ask God for faith and understanding. He will graciously provide it.
