HE News Bureau | Pune-New Delhi | 04 June 2014:: A 24-year-old Muslim software professional was bludgeoned to death allegedly by people with suspected links to a Hindu outfit Hindu Rashtra Sena near Pune, police said on Wednesday.

The trigger for the attack was apparently established for uploading of derogatory pictures of warrior Hindu king Shivaji Maharaj and late Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray on Facebook by that Muslim techie, which led to a protest.

Seven people were arrested in connection with the killing of a 24-year-old on Monday night in Unnati Nagar, Hadapsar. Identified as Mohsin Sadiq Sheikh of Solapur, the victim was working as a manager in Ujjawala Enterprises in Swargate for the past four years. He lived in Bankar Colony in Hadapsar.

Now it is reported that total of 13 people have been arrested by police in connection with the murder  in Hadapsa area on Monday night with six more people being arrested on Wednesday.

From a source it has also been reported the Hindu Rashtra Sena Chief , Sri Dhananjay Desai has also been arrested on Tuesday and it is likely that he will be questioned regarding the murder of 24-year-old IT professional Mohsin Sadiq Shaikh in Hadapsar on Monday.

Sheikh, along with this brother Mubin and roommate Riyaz Ahmad, had gone to offer prayers at a mosque, located close to Bankar Colony. While returning home around 9.30 pm, he was attacked by a mob.

Curfew was induced in Sayyed Nagar for the night, following the incident, which was then withdrawn on Tuesday morning.  The arrested suspects have been identified by the DCP (Zone IV) office as Vishal Sonavane (21), Atul Agam (21), Ranjeet Yadav (21), Sagar Sutar (19), Shubam Borde (19), Shekhar Modak (19), and Akash Lashkare (19).

According to police, all suspects are allegedly members of the Hindu Rashtra Sena (HRS), a Mumbai-based organisation headed by Dhananjay Desai, who is Pune-based. Manoj Patil, DCP (Zone IV), said, “There are more suspects under our scanner but we cannot reveal their names as investigations are on.”

The six youths who were taken into custody on Wednesday are Prashant Thorat (21), Akshay Ladge (20), Vijay Gambhire (24), Vicky Kandhare (19), Akshay Sonawane (19) and Ravi Sathe (21).

A case has been registered at Hadapasar police station under sections 302, 307, 147 and 148 of the India Penal Code. The accursed and arrested  persons have been remanded in police custody till June 9, by the Court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) in Cantonment.

Mubin said, after offering prayers, he returned home, while Mohsin and and Ahmad went to collect their dinner from a tiffin centre located near the mosque. “On their way back, they were attacked by a group of about 20. Ahmad managed to escape, but my brother could not.” According to sources in the know of the incident, who wish to remain anonymous, Ahmad was riding pillion.

The youth attacked them with hockey sticks and swords. “Ahmad fled after they assaulted them while they were in motion, causing the bike to fall. They hit him with a block of concrete/ cement,” said an eyewitness. According to others, cops were informed by people who were outside the mosque and could hear voices coming from the bylane ahead. “They tried to flee, but police managed to nab three of them,” sources said. Qamar Sheik, Mohsin’s cousin, said that he earned the bulk of his family’s income. “His parents run a small photocopy shop and he struggled to support his family.”

This attack is in continuation of the violence sparked by defamatory pictures of Shivaji Maharaj and Balasaheb Thackeray uploaded on Facebook on Sunday. Azhar Tamboli, a member of Maharashtra Action Committee, said, “If cops had taken preventive action, such violence could have been nipped in the bud. We urge the police to find the root cause of such violence.” When asked about preventive measures Commissioner of Police Satish Mathur refused to comment, but he did confirm that the arrested were HRS members.

In a statement, Hindu Rashtra Sena (HRS) Chief Dhananjay Desai requested to all concerned not to make any derogatory statement against Hindus and Hindu Dharma. According to Sena Chief, it may lead to further retaliation from the peace loving common Hindus. However, HRS denied any involvement with this techie murder so far.
