Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | New Delhi | January 9, 2015:: National Students Union of India (NSUI), the youth wing of the Congress, Naxlaite, AAP and some left wing  students are protesting outside Delhi University against BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s guest lecture on the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi issue in Delhi University campus.

According to ANI, Delhi University students are protesting outside the arts faculty where the seminar is going on. Police have detained some students.

BJP leader Dr Subramaniam Swamy had on Friday had lashed out at those opposing a seminar on Ram Janmabhoomi in Delhi University campus and dubbed them as “intolerant” even as the students and teachers said they will stage protests outside the venue on Saturday. “There has been a lot of hue and cry about the so called intolerance, where has that intolerance gone? This is a seminar on a topic which is very important, it is not being attended by politicians but by historians, researchers and academicians.

“What is the objection then? Those objecting are all left-wing people and Naxalites. If they want to protest outside they can, but if they disrupt the law and order then police should take proper action,” he said. The two-day seminar titled “Shri Ram Janma Bhoomi Temple: Emerging Scenario” and beginning tomorrow is being organised at DU’s Arts Faculty by Arundhati Vashishtha Anusandhan Peeth (AVAP), a research organisation founded by late VHP leader Ashok Singhal.

According to unsupported report, in the middle of the ongoing protest, the pro-Hindu and RSS affiliated student organisation ABVP had to clash with the anti-Ram Temple lobby at the time of entry of Dr Swamy in the DU campus.

As per the version of the NSUI, DU Unit, the seminar should not be conducted in University as Ram Temple is a communal issue and a Sub Judice matter in Supreme Court of India. ‘This is an clear attempt of Saffronization of academic campuses by BJP and ABVP’, the NSUI spokesperson of DU unit said.

But, Vinod Vansal of VHP, Delhi Unit conveys HENB that the seminar is an academic matter and very important in Historical, Archaeological and  Legal aspect. There is no connection of VHP with the seminar. ‘It is unfortunate that some section of people in India still find their relation with Babar, not with Lord Ram,’ Vansal added.

A student of DU and member of DU ABVP unit says HENB, ‘Time has come to free the Academic campuses from the hold of Nehruvian, Marxist and Maoist activism. If they can run seminars on Gandhi, Nehru, Marx etc, why others can’t hold seminar on Lord Ram and his birthplace? There are 1000 times more followers of Lord Ram in India than Gandhi, Nehru, Marx or Mao. So, these hooligans creating problem to an academic seminar in DU on Ram Temple are definitely undemocratic.’ The ABVP supporter claims that DU should be named after Lord Ram or Swami Vivekananda.
