Will ‘upto Rs 100 Cr Fine and  7 yrs Confinement’ also be applicable for Google? Google is cheating GOI with ‘three different confusing Maps of India’. 

Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | New Delhi | May 7, 2016:: According to the draft ‘The Geospatial Information Regulation Bill 2016’ of Union Govt. of India, it will be mandatory to take permission from a government authority before acquiring, disseminating, publishing or distributing any geospatial information of India.

Accordingly, Wrong depiction of the map of India could land the violators in jail with a maximum term of seven years and fine upto Rs 100 crore.

This measure has been envisaged by the GOI against the backdrop of instances where certain social networking sites showed J&K and Arunachal Pradesh as part of Pakistan and China respectively.

Update:: Map law won’t hurt tech firms, but companies like Google will have to depict maps correctly: Kiren Rijiju.

This move of the Govt in India earns an applause from a major section of patriotic people as showing PoK, Arunachal as not a part of India can lead to 7-year jail, upto Rs 100 crore fine. Such wrong depiction of the map of India hurts million of Indians really.

But, Google simultaneously shows different maps for India, China and USA. This is very much confusing. And it will create a controversy after the bill in question is passed for action.

In Indian version (<click here)of Google Maps, it shows Arunachal Pradesh and eastern part of Jammu and Kashmir as integral part of India.

In US version (<click here) of Google Maps,  Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are shown as a disputed region.

In the Chinese version (<click here) of the Google Maps,  Arunachal Pradesh and J&K are shown as  not a part of India.

Those (some Modi fans or fanatics) who are delighting as ’56 Inch: Google started showing JnK and Arunachal Pradesh as part of India instead of disputed land’, actually falsifying the truth.

Google audacity in connection with publishing Indian Maps are many. Even they don’t use Hindi names of places in Indian maps, when they allow Chinese, Nepali, Urdu or Mandarin for neighboring country’s maps.
