B Upendran | HENB | Kannur (Kerala) | May 12, 2017:: Political violence has returned to Kannur as an RSS office bearer accused in the murder of a CPM worker last year was hacked to death near Kannur today around 4 pm.

The state BJP leadership has accused CPM activists of the crime. It is alleged that, ‘295 person are killed  in 350 days of CPM rule in Kerala‘.

The RSS worker, Biju, in his early 30s, is the 12th accused in the murder of CPM worker Dhanaraj, that took place near Payyanur, Kerala in July last year.

The armed gang attacked Dhanaraj before his family members. He died on the way to hospital.

The police have cordoned off the area and probe has begun.

According to police, a gang of five persons traveling in an Innova car hit Biju’s bike on the road and attacked him with swords.

BJP district unit has called for a total shut down in Kannur district and tension is prevailing in the area.

Police security provided to Biju, who was on bail, was withdrawn last week.

In July last year, two hours after Dhanaraj was murdered, C.K. Ramachandran, an auto driver and RSS worker was also stabbed to death. The assailants hurled crude bombs before stabbing Ramachandran.

Kannur has witnessed dozens of political murders with casualties being inflicted on both sides.

Political violence is not new to the red citadel of CPM. Killings and counter killings have been a part of Kannur’s political history since 1970s.
