Agra: Retired Hindu IAS officer’s daughter falls prey to ‘love jihad’.

Faking as Aditya, Arif seduced, married & tried to convert an ex Hindu IAS officer’s widowed daughter in a high profile love jihad case in UP’s Agra. 

Ranjana Tiwari | HENB | Lucknow | July 6, 2021:: The daughter of a retired IAS officer has now become a ‘victim’ of love jihad. The police on Monday said Arif Hashmi, a timber businessman from Lucknow, posed as Aditya, when he met his prey at a function.

According to the police, he struck up a friendship in Lucknow with the woman and when their relationship progressed, the couple got married in 2010. The woman was a widow and did not suspect the intentions of ‘Aditya’.

As per allegation made from the side of the victim woman, it was stated that the said Arif alias Aditya smeared vermilion on the forehead of the victim during a party as a mark of marriage.

After some years of marriage, the woman came to know about the real identity of the man and then he destroyed the Hindu puja place in the room of the victim and started forcing her to convert to Islam, said the police. When she refused, he started torturing and blackmailing. He would use the hotel of the woman’s first husband as to thrash her by third party leading to sexual assault and unnatural activities.

The woman then filed a case against the accused under serious sections like assault, attempt to murder, rape, unnatural act, robbery, cheating and unlawful conversion.

“We have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC 307 (Attempt to murder), 376 (Punishment for rape), 377 (Unnatural offences), 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and under anti-conversion law. The accused has been arrested on Sunday and further investigations are underway,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Agra City, Botre Rohan Pramod.

The police have also found his photographs in which he is seen with a number of top Samajwadi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. Now, the investigation is activated from Agra to Lucknow for further probe whether any network is involved in this case to trap other Hindu girls and women in any bigger ‘love jihad’ racket.
