CM and Speaker defend ‘Namaz Room’ at Jharkhand assembly, but silent over why no ‘Hindu Puja Room’ or ‘Sarna Sthal’ in Assembly Building!!

Upendra Bharti | HENB | Ranchi | Sept 6, 2021:: The allocation of a specific namaz room in the new legislative assembly premises in Jhakhand has sparked a controversy with the Opposition BJP questioning the assembly speaker, Rabindra Nath Mahato  and the state government on its biased attitude towards one religion.

BJP staged protests on Sunday demanding either a rollback of the order or installation of places of worship for other religions, particularly a Hanuman mandir and a ‘ Sarna sthal’.

BJP’s chief whip Biranchi Narayan has also written to Speaker Mahto saying the party would approach the court against the allotment of the namaz room in the assembly and termed it “unconstitutional.”

Narayan also demanded a space for followers of the Sarna, at least five rooms for Hindus to chant Hanuman chalisa and separate prayer rooms for MLAs and staff of other faiths.

Defending the move, Mahato said, “The controversy created by BJP is unwanted and the assembly stands by its decision. I don’t know why BJP is raking up the issue unnecessarily. Even in the old assembly building, a room above the library was used for offering namaz on Fridays”.

After shifting to the new building, we have just provided a space so that our Muslim brothers can offer prayers. What is wrong if a place is formally notified? The assembly has always embraced all faiths and customs by organizing programmes on different festivals.”

At the behest of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, speaker Mahato of the same political party initiated the move to allot a separate Namaz Room for Four Muslim MLAs (viz. Dr Sarafraz Ahmad-JMM from Gandey, Irfn Ansari- INC from Jamtara, Haji Hussain Ansari -JMM from Madhupur, Alamgir Alam – INC from Pakur); but there is no allocation of prayer rooms for other Seventy Seven MLAs in Jharkhand Assembly from at least five different faiths and religious practices.

As a matter of fact Adhan (Azaan) and Namaz are the exercise of Jihad in the name of prayer or prayer call to spread Pan Islamism only to annihilate the non-believers/ kaffirs under an Islamic solidarity.

Sources say that the closeness of Muslim MLAs of JMM and INC put a pressure on CM Soren and Speaker Mahato for an early allocation of Namaz room with a ‘Halal ambiance of Jharkhand assembly’.
