Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha president Swami Chakrapani pushed for the Bharat Ratna award for late Veer Savarkar. Rename Akbar Road as Veer Savarkar Road.

Biplob Ghosal | Times Now Bureau | New Delhi | Nov 18, 2022:: Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha president Swami Chakrapani on Friday announced to install a statue of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar infront of the Congress headquarters at Akbar Road.

The Hindu Mahasabha leader also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rename Akbar Road as Veer Savarkar Road in honour of the freedom fighter. Chakrapani also pushed for the Bharat Ratna award for the late Hindutva ideologue.

Swami Chakrapani made the demands after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi targeted Veer Savarkar claiming that he helped the British rulers and wrote a mercy petition to them out of fear.

A huge controversy has erupted over Rahul Gandhi’s statement against Veer Savarkar. Addressing a press conference, the Congress leader showed a paper to the media persons, claiming it was a letter written by the late Hindutva ideologue to the British.

“I will read the last line, which says ‘I beg to remain your most obedient servant’ and is signed V D Savarkar,” Gandhi said.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vociferously attacked Rahul Gandhi over his ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra and his comments on Veer Savarkar, saying it shows they (Congress) can only break the country, not unite it.

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray disagreed with Rahul’s statement, saying that his party has immense respect for VD Savarkar and he does not approve of Congress MP’s remarks about the late Hindutva ideologue.

Thackeray also asked why the BJP-led central government has not yet conferred the Bharat Ratna award on Savarkar.

“We do not approve of Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Savarkar. We have immense respect and faith in Swatantryaveer Savarkar and it cannot be erased,” Uddhav Thackeray said.
