ELECTION POLITICS: An active member of the RSS, Dheeraj Ghate will replace Jagdish Mulik.

Express News Service | Pune | July 19, 2023:: Gearing up for forthcoming elections at the civic body level to the Lok Sabha, the BJP on Wednesday appointed Dheeraj Ghate, known to be a staunch advocate of Hindutva, as its new Pune unit chief.

Ghate, who has been an active member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his childhood, will replace Jagdish Mulik, whose three-year term has ended.

Ghate was first elected to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2017 and was made the leader of the House in 2019, only to be abruptly replaced after a year. He was also an aspirant for the Assembly elections from Kasba constituency but failed to get the party candidature.

In the Kasba bypoll held a few months ago, the BJP picked Hemant Rasane over Ghate and other aspirants and lost its bastion to the Congress in a keenly fought contest.
