Pune: Hindutva Organisations Including BJP Allege Illegal Islamic Construction At Punyeshwar Temple, Protest Against PMC For Inaction.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | Pune | Aug 21, 2023:: Several Hindutva organizations of the city held a protest outside the Pune Municipal Commissioner’s office on Monday demanded action on the alleged illegal construction being conducted at the historic Punyeshwar temple. The protestors were carrying posters demanding the resignation of the municipal commissioner. Some BJP members also participated in the protest rally, as reported.

Later the leaders met the municipal commissioner at his office and ended the protest after assurance of action on the matter. Dheeraj Ghate, city president of BJP said “Punyewashar is a sacred place for us. We demand that the PMC should remove illegal construction from the temple premises. I had come to meet the Municipal Commissioner on this matter and requested him to issue a stop work order.”

Ghate also said that he has also discussed the matter with guardian minister Chandrakant Patil and he has assured to arrange a joint meeting of police and officials of the municipal corporation on the matter.

Founder of Samasta Hindu Aghadi Milind Ekbote further warned of larger protests by the Hindu organizations on the matter. “PMC only gave a stop work order on the matter earlier but they did not demolish the construction done illegally in the temple premises. If PMC does not act on the issue by Thursday then Hindu people from Pune will reach the temple on Monday and protest on the matter.”

It may be noted that the political parties in the past have alleged that the two ancient temples of the city Punrshwar and Narayaneshwar were replaced by new Dargahs (Islamic shrines). The case had also reached the high court.

The Samasta Hindu Aghadi inspired by Bhide Guruji and Maharashtra Gad Durg Rakshan Samiti inspired by HJS (Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and SS (Sanatan Sanstha) have been fighting for long to remove the Islamic encroachments from the Hindu religious sites and the Forts once possessed by  Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Thousands of acres of Hindu lands and temple properties in India are encroached on by wakf Boards and local Islamic bodies.
