Stop Islamization of Chittagong Hill Tract: CAAMB & AIRF.

International Conference on ‘Human Rights Violations and Implementation of Chittagong Hill Tract Accord’ held in Kolkata to protect Indigenous people from Islamic onslaught in Bangladesh. 

Prakash Narayan Das | HENB | Kolkata | Sept 23, 2023:: The Buddhists of Chittagong Hill Tracts and the indigenous people there of  Hindu roots are facing a huge ethnic cleansing under gross Islamic violence perpetrated by various Jihadi groups in Bangladesh. To address the challenges for a survival cause, leaders of Chittagong Hill Tracts and real movement leaders of West Bengal assembled in Kolkata at an international conference which was organized by CAAMB(Campaign Against Atrocities on Minorities of Bangladesh) and AIRF (All India Refugee Front) on September 23 at the Conference Hall of Academy of Fine Arts.

The conference had its focus on, “Human Rights violations and Implementation of Chittagong Hill Tract Accord.”

In his welcome address, moderator Dr. Mohit Roy of CAAMB  said that the purpose of the conference is to draw attention to the issue of human rights violations in Chittagong Hill Tracts in India and internationally. The Jumma people of Chittagong Hill Tracts are the natural bearers of Indian culture and traditions and are friendly people of India. If this hilly area near the India-Myanmar border and Chittagong port becomes a sanctuary for Islamic militants, then not only for Bangladesh, it will be an extreme national security threat for South Asian states.

 Ushatan Talukdar (Vice President, Chittagong Hill Tracts Solidarity Association, former Member of Parliament, Bangladesh) said in his speech that during partition in 1947, 98.5 percent of the people of Chittagong Hill Tracts were non-Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and Christians. Naturally, the non-Muslim Jammu people hoped that the Chittagong Hill Tracts would be annexed to India. On August 15, 1947, the Chakma-Jammu people hoisted the Indian flag at Rangamati, the heart of Chittagong Hill Tracts. Since the accession to Pakistan, the persecution of the Jammu people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts started and the conspiracy to turn the non-Muslim Chittagong Hill Tracts into a Muslim-dominated region began in the process of ethnic cleansing.

Gautam Dewan (President, Chittagong Hill Tracts Citizens Committee, Bangladesh) spoke in detail about the Chittagong Hill Tracts Agreement and its non-implementation of it to make an inroad of the Jihadi people. Dewan also narrated the story of the resistance of the people of Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Dhaka University history professor Dr Mesba Kamal in his speech highlighted the long history of hateful treatment of minority groups by all the governments of Bangladesh since its creation.

Tathagata Roy (former governor of Tripura and Meghalaya and veteran BJP leader) urged the people of West Bengal to be aware of the real history of partition of undivided India and Islamization issues as a threat to humanity and global peace.

 Jishnu Basu, General Secretary of  RSS South Bengal and Faculty Member, SINP spoke about the faith and love of the people of Chittagong Hill Tracts for their own culture.

Karunalanka Bhikshu (Peace Campaign Group, Chittagong Hill Tracts) spoke about the problem of Islamization in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Uttam Chakraborty (Organizing Secretary, Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad) expressed the support of all minority people with the Chittagong Hill Tracts people’s movement.

Sujit Shikder of All India Refugee Front conducted a question-and-answer session with the audience before the conclusion of the seminar.

The organizers of the seminar expressed their hope to arrange more programmes in support of the persecuted indigenous people in Chittagong Hill Tracts to make it an international issue in order to stop the Islamization of Chittagong Hill Tract.
