Deepotsav 2023: More than 22 lakh diyas lit up in Ayodhya; city sets new Guinness world record. 

Upendra Bharti | HENB | Ayodhya | Nov 12, 2023:: In a historic celebration, Ayodhya Deepotsav 2023 has entered the record books by setting a new Guinness World Record for the Festival of Lights during Diwali. The event, held in Ayodhya, showcased an extraordinary display of lights, with a multitude of diyas illuminating the city in a breathtaking spectacle. The record-breaking feat not only marks Ayodhya’s dedication to the cultural significance of Diwali but also positions it as a global leader in hosting one of the most remarkable festivals of lights. The achievement underscores the city’s commitment to fostering joy, unity, and cultural richness on this auspicious occasion.

Ayodhya is celebrating the seventh Deepostav event which is known for setting a new record each year. This year, the city broke last year’s record of 15.76 lakh diyas by lighting up more than 22 lakh lamps. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the ceremony with Governor Anandiben Patel and representatives of 41 countries from embassies in India. The three-day event began yesterday.

More than 22 lakh ‘diyas’ illuminated the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya during the seventh edition of the Deepotsav, setting a new world record of lighting a large number of lamps simultaneously at one place. The 22,23 lakh ‘diyas’ (earthen lanterns), 6.47 lakh more than last year, were lit by 25,000 volunteers at the 51 ghats of Ram Ki Paidi along the river.
