K B Kali | HENB | Washington | Nov 17, 2023:: The Congressional Hindu Caucus celebrated its official inauguration and Diwali on Wednesday at an event hosted by the Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC) in Washington DC. RHC chairman and caucus policy advisor Shalabh Kumar hosted caucus cochairs Elise Stefanik and Pete Sessions, and 16 other members of the US Congress.
Over 600 prominent Hindu Americans from across the US also attended the event. It is the largest Hindu Caucus to see the matters of Hindu Rights and participation in the Nation’s development in US and discrimination if any occurred upon the Hindu Americans whatsoever.
Earlier in September last, a Hindu-Buddhist-Sikh-Jain Caucus was formed under the initiatives of Democrat lawmakers to stand against any ‘religious discrimination’. Then, Congressman Shri Thanedar formally launched Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh and Jain American Caucus in US Congress.
A congressional caucus is a group of members of the United States Congress that meet to pursue common legislative objectives.
According to a press release from RHC, it is known that “For the first time ever, a large number of members of the US Congress will meet frequently to pursue legislative objective important to Hindu and Indian Americans, US and India bilateral relations, and serve as a bridge between the Hindu American community and US policymakers and leaders; serving as a major conduit between the largest democracy in the world and the oldest democracy in the world”,
“This will be one of the largest caucuses in the US Congress that would be actively engaged in enacting legislation and passing resolutions important to the Hindu American community,” Kumar said at the event.
Kumar also highlighted the substantial contributions of over six million Hindu Americans and four and a half million Indian Americans in various fields and the pivotal role played by them in shaping the fabric of American society.
“More than 75% have a bachelor’s degree, more than 55% have a master’s degree, one out of eight medical professionals are Hindus, one out of ten has some kind of a business enterprise,” Kumar said adding that the community is represented at the highest level and now has a voice in American politics.
Though political goals of Democrats and Republicans are different the Hindu caucus made by them separately may engage themselves in the bigger interest of Indian Americans of Hindu roots to glorify the oldest democracy in the world.
