Mamata accuses BJP of ‘saffronising’ India cricket jersey.

Jyotipriya Moulik | HENB | Kolkata | Nov 18, 2023:: WB Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s mental health is not well enough. After suffering from ‘Jai Shri Ram’-phobia, Mamata is now affected with ‘Saffron’-phobia. 

As a result of it,  West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that “everything has been turned to saffron”, citing the practice jersey of the Indian cricket team. It is the latest  jibe of Mamata Didi at the Bharatiya Janata Party as went viral in the social media.

“Now everything is turning saffron! We are proud of our Indian players and I believe they will be the world champion. But even their dress has been turned to saffron when they practice. They used to wear blue earlier,” Mamata Banerjee said at an inaguration of Jagaddhatri Puja event in Kolkata on Friday.

“Even metro stations are being painted saffron. Once I had heard Mayawati had erected her statue, but now this has become normal. Now everything is being named after NaMo,” the Trinamool Congress supremo said.

It must be noted that Team India’s match jersey is of blue colour. The orange kit is worn by the team during the practice sessions.

BJP MP Dilip Ghosh, who earlier served as the president of the party’s West Bengal unit, cited the example of the Netherlands cricket team, whose members wear saffron jerseys.

“Netherland cricketers also wear saffron jerseys. Does that mean they have become a Hindu nation? What will the TMC people do if anyone is wearing a saffron jersey? Will they jump down the gallery? Will they jump into the river Ganga? They have nothing else to do,” Ghosh told reporters.

BJP  leader Shishir Bajoria also voiced Ghosh’s sentiments and criticised Banerjee for her remarks.

“We welcome her wish to cheer for Team India for winning the World Cup. But when she says that the saffronisation of Team India has happened as they wear a saffron jersey during practice, what about our tricolour where saffron is at the top? What is the colour of the first ray of sunlight?” Bajoria said.

Some private source close to Ex-TMC MLA Sonali Guha reports that earlier Mamata took milk with saffron at her bedtime, but later she dropped that practice after she got a problem with saffron colour. Even she does not worship with some sorts of marigold flowers which resemble with  saffron colour. What a problem!
