Kolkata: VHP leads protest march in Dharmatalla condemning brutal attack on Sadhus in Purulia.

Attacks on Sadhus in West Bengal :  VHP’s  protest rally blamed the state government for the brutal assault on the Sadhus in Purulia. 

VHP submitted a memorandum to the Governor requesting proper investigation of the incident to give strictest punishments to the offenders.

Sankirtan Das | HENB | Kolkata | Jan 16, 2024:: In response to the heinous attack on sadhus in Purulia on January 11, a protest rally was organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today. The demonstration saw the participation of hundreds of saffron clad saints who gathered to voice their concerns and condemn the violence. The rally commenced from Wellington Subodh Mallik Square , near Hind Cinema, and made its way to Dharmatalla Y Channel. VHP blamed the state government for the brutal attack on the Sadhus (monks) from this non-political rally.

On Tuesday, hundreds   of  Saints from different Religious Sects, Ashrams, Maths participated in the procession wearing saffron robes along with their disciples and supporters of VHP holding saffron flags and posters  in hand. “Jai Shri Ram, Bharat Mata ki Jai, Stop attacks on Hindu sadhus’ slogans were raised from the procession claiming that the state government was anti-Hindu. The state government was blamed for the attack on saints in Purulia. After reaching Dharmatala from Wellington, the saints protested there for a while. After that they submitted a memorandum to the Governor requesting proper investigation of the incident to give strictest punishments to the offenders.

The chilling incident of attacking three sadhus with two other accomplishes on January 11 unfolded near Gourangdih near Kashipur of Purulia on when three saints travelling in a vehicle for their journey to Gangasagar Mela.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad South Bengal spokesperson Sourish Mukherjee said that any attack on Hindu saints anywhere in the world will be protested by Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Purulia incident happened because of police inaction. Though the followers of Sanatan Hindu Dharma  believe in non-violence, everyone has the right to protest. Hope the police will arrest the real culprits.

A response from the Trinamool Congress has been made by taking a jibe at the procession of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. TMC said, Purulia incident is unfortunate. Millions of saints passed through dirrerent parts of West Bengal to the Gangasagar Mela. No problem anywhere like Purulia so far reported. Police investigating the Purulia incident said that the attack was due to a linguistic misunderstanding. The police administration stood in favour of the affected saints. Even the accused have been arrested. Despite that, an attempt is being made to give political color to the incident.

Earlier, pointing out Police inaction for the Purulia incident, BJP’s national media cell chief Amit Malviya named one Muslim goon and civic police Anwar Sheikh behind the attack.
