B Upendran | HENB | Mancherial | April 17, 2024:: Some Hindutva oranisation members shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans,  have bragged into a Catholic school and cautioned a Christian priest in Telangana’s Mancherial district on 16 April.

Reportedly, the arrogant Hindu activists  wearing saffron shits and shawls vandalised St. Mother Teresa English Medium School in Kannepally village, breaking glass windows and flower pots and pelting stones on the statue of St. Mother Teresa at the main gates.

The mob also engaged in a brawl with Father Jaimon Joseph, the school manager and warned him not to hurt Hindu sentiment further.

“Some of them slapped and threw punches at me while others attacked me from behind,” UCA news quoted the priest who is a member of the Missionary Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament (MCBS), as saying.

From Hindu sides, it was alleged that the school authorities including a Christian teacher and the school manager rebuked some Hindu students who came to school with saffron scarfs tied on their neck over the school uniform.  When the students tried to clarify as they were observing Chaitra Navratri, the school authority humiliated their sentiment by uttering filthy words to Sanatan Dharma. This created an unpleasant situations with the  orthodox stands taken by the school management.

“The school principal found a few students attending classes wearing religious dress and questioned them,” Joseph said as quoted in UCA News.

They informed him that it was part of a 21-day special religious observance, the priest added.

The principal merely asked them to bring their parents to school to know more.

However, one of the students uploaded a video accusing the principal and the priest of refusing to allow students to wear religious dress.

“As the video footage circulated on social media, close to 1,000 people reached the school and vandalized it,” Joseph said.

He said that the school management has lodged a complaint with local police, but no arrests have been made yet.

Instead, the police have gone ahead and registered a case against the school management for hurting religious sentiments.

After seeing a huge Hindu protest at the gate of the school, the police authority have arranged a contingent deployment in the spot to avoid any further disturbance in the area.
