Trinamool MLA Humayun Kabir threatens Hindus, Warns to throw BJP supporters in Bhagirathi in 2 hours, Sparks row.

The communal speech of Bharatpur TMC MLA sparked a row when he threatened BJP supporters to “throw into river Bhagirathi within two hours”. His remarks drew criticism from BJP, which called it “appeasement politics touching a new low in West Bengal”.

Shanta Paul | HENB | Berhampur | May 2, 2024:: The communal and controversial Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir stoked controversy when he threatened to throw BJP supporters into river Bhagirathi, a tributary of river Ganga in West Bengal, within two hours. He also raked up the demographics of Hindus and Muslims in Murshidabad.

Kabir is an MLA from the Bharatpur assembly constituency in Murshidabad, a Muslim-majority district in West Bengal.

In a video that went viral on social media, Kabir said in Bengali, “If I can’t throw BJP (supporters) into the river Bhagirathi Ganga within two hours, I will leave politics. I will not let you guys stay in Shaktipur. If you think that only 30 percent of residents (referring to Hindus) are there in Murshidabad, we are 70 percent (Muslims).”

From an effort to understand what the MLA wanted to say in his speech  word to word as seen the video reveals it as “কত ধানে কত চাল হয়- দুঘন্টার মধ্যে তোমাদেরকে যদি ভাগীরথীতে না ফেলতে পারি রাজনীতি থেকে সরে যাবো, শক্তিপুর এলাকায় বসবাস করা বন্ধ করে দেব। তোমরা হাতির পাঁচ পা দেখেছো, কিন্তু যদি ভেবে থাকো ৩০% লোক মুর্শিদাবাদ জেলায়, আর আমরা ৭০%। এখানে কামনগরে তোমার বেশি আছো বলে কাজীপাড়ায় মসজিদ ভাঙবে, আর বাকি এলাকার মুসলমান ভাইরা হাত গুটিয়ে বসে থাকবে, এটা কোনো দিন হবে না। দিকে দিকে আমি হুঁশিয়ার করে দিয়ে বলছি, কোনো দিন হবে না।”

From his speech it is very much clear the TMC MLA wanted to invoke a communal tension again referring to the clash between Hindu-Muslims during las Ram Navami celebration in Shaktipur in Murshidabad. The speech of Kabir amounts to a mass killing of Hindus in order to throw them in the Ganga river.

Though Humayun wanted to evade the communal stings from his speech referring the matter ‘between BJP and TMC’ in an TV talk-show later, his speech was clearly uttered with the word ‘Muslim brothers’ and its opponents hinting to the Hindus in the substance. In the TV  show of Zee News, Humayun claimed that he was always an advocate of Hindu-Muslim amity and his speech was twisted for politics.

“The mosque will be demolished in Kazipara because there are too many of you, and the Muslim brothers of the rest of the area will sit idly by, it will never happen.,” Humayun warned the BJP supporters and Hindus both.

BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya shared a video in which Kabir made the remarks and alleged that “appeasement politics” in West Bengal “touched a new low”.

“In Murshidabad, Hindus are a minority. Just 28 per cent. And this is what they are being subjected to. Imagine what fate awaits Hindus, if they become a minority in the rest of Bengal. Appeasement politics in West Bengal has touched a new low,” Malviya tweeted.

“Thanks to Mamata Banerjee, Hindus are now worse than second-class citizens in Bengal. Will she dare to kick out this MLA from the party? Can those intellectuals, who routinely spread venom against the Hindus, dare to speak a word?” he said.

Though the communal speech of TMC MLA Humayun Kabir stocked a huge repercussion in the mind of peace loving people of Bengal,  the  ruling party in the state has kept  mum to ignore it anyway.

Interestingly, this Humayun Kabir contested from Murshidabad Lok Sabha seat as a BJP nominated candidate in 2019.
