Tensions Escalate in UP’s Malwan Town as Hindu Mahapanchayat opposes an ‘Illegal’  Construction of Mosque.

under constructionJay Prakash Singh | HENB | Fatehpur | July 24, 2024::  Tensions escalates in Uttar Pradesh as seen a new flashpoint in Fatehpur district, where a dispute over mosque construction has ignited clashes between Hindu organisations and local authorities. The controversy is being exacerbated by broader concerns about the rise of illegal construction and pompous renovations of Mosques here and there in the region.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal members organised a Hindu Mahapanchayat to protest the ongoing construction of a mosque upon unauthorizedly possessed land. The Mahapanchyat convened by the Hindutva groups was held in Malwan of Fatehpur city area on Sunday, July 21. The Mahapanchayat declared the construction of the Mosque was illegal and built upon a Government land as the Mosque committee had encroached the land by unfair means and forging land records.

The gathering, which attracted thousands of Hindu participants, called for the immediate cessation of the mosque’s construction, alleging that it was being built on government land.

According to the reports, key figures from the VHP, including organizing secretary (Kanpur region),  Raju Porwal, expressed their opposition to the mosque, stating that it was an illegal construction.

The conflict centres on allegations that the mosque under construction in Malwan town is being built on government land intended for a pond. Hindu organisations claim that this construction is illegal and violates land-use regulations. The district administration has promised a thorough investigation into these claims but has yet to take appropriate action.

The gathering of Mahapanchayat saw a scuffle between the protesters and the administration officials. Activists attempted to access the construction site but were prevented by authorities.

According to an input, it is ascertained, “In 2009, Wakf Board had 4 lakh acres of land, today Wakf Board has 8.50 lakh acres of land.”
