Hindus in Kolkata protested the ruthless attacks on Bangladeshi minority Hindus and others.

Minority Hindus attacked by Islamic fundamentalists in Bangladesh. Human chain in Kolkata demands safety and security of minorities in Bangladesh. 

Prakash Ranjan Das | HENB | Kolkata | Aug 7, 2024:: While Bangladesh is still in tension under Army rule and some agents of ‘Deep State’ are going to form an interim Government, the Hindus in Kolkata came out in streets to protest against the ruthless attacks on Bangladeshi minority Hindus and others.

Today, (Wednesday, August 7, at 6:30pm) in the evening, a human chain, candle lighting and demonstration was held in Jadavpur 8 B bus stand area to demand the safety of minority Hindus attacked by Islamic fundamentalists. The event got importance being spontaneous in the presence of many  BJP workers and members of Hindu society in this event without the flag of any organisation. Expert on Bangladesh affairs  Prof.  Mohit Roy and writer  Sandeep Bagchi  took part in the programme with others.

The programme was held in a close proximity of Jadavpur University (JU), which is known as the ‘Abode of left  liberals’ and the ‘Urban Naxals’ from where no protest on the present Bangladesh situation was held by any student organisations or by any forums of the professors there. But, JU campus saw many movements in support of Palestine terrorists or the Kashmir separatist.

Not even CPIM, Congress  or TMC spent any words to take measures to save lives of vulnerable Hindus in Bangladesh.

Protesting the present ‘Mayhem in Bangladesh’ perpetrated by the  Jamat and Hefazat people, the speakers in the human chain and demonstration urged all concerned to take urgent and necessary steps to stop ‘Genocide of Hindus’ as occurred in Noakhali Massacre -1946 or at the time of Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.

This is the first Hindu protest in Kolkata after the current targeted attacks on Bangladesh Hindus in the name of ‘Students’ protest’ over ‘anti-quota’ or ‘anti-Hassina’  agitation.

The speakers stressed upon the situation in WB Bengal under the growing control of some Islamist people supported by the ruling TMC Government. They also urged for a preparedness for the situation, if a large number of Hindu refugees would come again in a dreadful situation created in Bangladesh by the Jihadi elements.

In the programme, a leaflet was distributed to the common people and passers by on behalf of CAAMB (Campaign against Atrocities on Minorities of Bangladesh).

The leaflet states, “In East Pakistan and later in Bangladesh, the minority Hindus have been attacked and oppressed for the past 75 years. There the Hindu population has decreased from 30 percent to 7 percent. Bangladesh was created in the blood of 25 lakh Hindus in 1971. Bangladesh was freed by the intervention of the Indian army and independent Bangladesh was established.

“Despite the great sacrifices made by India and the Hindu community, there is Hindu hatred in Bangladesh just like it was during the Pakistan period. In 1990, 1992, 2001 Hindus were repeatedly attacked all over Bangladesh, thousands of houses, temples were looted, women were raped, many people were killed. In the last fifty years, one crore Hindus have left Bangladesh as refugees and taken refuge in India.

“The present anti-quota student movement that started on July 17 ended with the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Even after the resolution of the quota problem, the violent participation of Islamic fundamentalists was behind this bloody movement.

“As in any previous period of unrest, Hindu society became the target of this movement without any reason. Hindus of Sherpur, Khulna, Feni, Dinajpur, Narsingdi, Kishoreganj, Jessore, Chittagong Satkhira were also affected, temples were destroyed, many houses were on fire. There will be more in the coming days.

“Not anymore. That is why we demand that the Indian government and the Hindu society of West Bengal should take responsibility for the safety of the Hindus of Bangladesh. Otherwise West Bengal will be West Bangladesh.”
