Bangladesh Dhaka Protest

Dhaka Protest over Incidents of Communal Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh (August 5-8).

A snapshot of communal violence against Hindus in Bangladesh from August 5-8, including targeted attacks, killings, vandalism, looting of homes and businesses, rape of women, arson in villages, and temple desecration across various regions. This is only a short compilation from a havoc to Hindus still unreported.

By Upananda Brahmachari

Right to LiveThe devastating communal attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh between August 5-8, which included murder, vandalism, looting of homes and businesses, sexual violence against women, village arson, and temple attacks in multiple locations, have shocked humanity worldwide. Radical elements from Jamat, Hefazat, and BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) hijacked the ‘anti-Quota’ and anti-Hassina protests to unleash mayhem against peaceful Hindus and other minorities, aiming to establish a Sharia-based state.

Despite the democratically elected government being ousted, and the army taking control after Prime Minister Sheikh Hassina’s resignation, with an interim government led by Nobel laureate and economist Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the threat to minority communities persists. The safety and security of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh remain un-restored, leaving their future uncertain.

Though it is difficult to suppress the facts in today’s socially connected world, a segment of pro-Islamist media and anti-Hindu, anti-India elements attempted to downplay the severity of the situation during the student agitation in Bangladesh. However, the brutal and targeted attacks by Jamat, Hefazat, and BNP against minority communities, particularly Hindus, exposed their true intentions: the systematic eradication of Hindus in Bangladesh. The inhumane nature of these attacks revealed the sinister motives behind their actions, making it clear that this was not just a random act of violence, but a deliberate attempt to annihilate the Hindu minority.

Hindus across the world came out to streets to condemn such brutality upon Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh took out rallies in many places including Kolkata, Dhaka and New York.

The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad ) and Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Samity tried to present a snapshot of communal violence against Hindus in Bangladesh from August 5-8, including targeted attacks, killings, vandalism, looting of homes and businesses, rape of women, arson in villages, and temple desecration across various regions. This is only a short compilation from a havoc to Hindus still unreported. But, this presentation  of Jihadi havoc in Bangladesh in just four days indicates the future of Bangladesh shaping as a Sharia State.

Does Hindu Lives matter in Bangladesh

In the wake of recent communal attacks on Hindus, various Hindu forums in Bangladesh have submitted an eight-point demand to the interim government, urging it to take immediate measures to protect and safeguard the vulnerable Hindu minority community in Bangladesh. The demands aim to address the pressing concerns of the Hindu community and ensure their safety, security, and well-being in the face of rising communal violence.

Demands for Protection and Empowerment of Minorities in Bangladesh

1. Judicial Investigation and Punishment: Conduct a thorough judicial investigation into recent incidents of vandalism, looting, and persecution of minorities, and ensure appropriate punishment for the culprits.

2. Compensation and Rehabilitation: Provide adequate compensation to innocent minority business owners and the general public, and ensure the safe and honorable return of people from border regions who have been forced to leave their homes. Rebuild homes and provide rehabilitation through government initiatives if necessary.

3. Hindu Religious Welfare Trust: Register the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust as a full-fledged Hindu Foundation, expand its activities and funding, and reorganize it with neutral and true well-wishers of the Sanatanis, excluding individuals affiliated with political parties.

4. Minority Representation: Ensure proper representation of minorities at all levels of government.

5. National Minority Protection Commission: Establish a separate, independent ‘National Minority Protection Commission’ to document incidents of attacks and persecution of minorities, and assist in obtaining justice through legal processes.

6. Special Protection: Provide special protection for the homes, businesses, and religious establishments of minorities, and take appropriate action in case of attacks. Assign the responsibility of ensuring this protection to the army until the situation is fully normalised.

7. Minority Protection Law: Enact a special ‘Minority Protection Law’ to ensure prompt prosecution and exemplary punishment of those involved in vandalism and looting of temples, homes, and institutions belonging to minorities.

8. Security for Religious Ceremonies: Guarantee the security necessary for the peaceful and proper observance of religious ceremonies and festivals of minorities.

A Prajna Pravah initiative has also urged all concerned to take a call  to convey  solidarity with persecuted Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. They launched a signature campaign as “Urgent Appeal to UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council) for the Protection of Hindus and other Minorities in Bangladesh”.

All concerned are requested to sign in a google format through email ID. Click here to sign.
