Right-wingers slam Modi government for appointing Hindutva abuser Dilip Mandal as Media Advisor.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Aug 25, 2024:: For the past few days, right-wing individuals have been expressing outrage and protesting the appointment of Dilip Mandal, a vocal critic of Hindutva, as Media Advisor by the Narendra Modi government. Mandal, a former journalist with India Today Magazine’s Hindi edition, claims to be a professor from an unknown university. He has been appointed as an Advisor in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry with a substantial salary. According to senior officials, his responsibilities include representing the government in TV debates, writing articles, and creating pro-Dalit narratives on social media to favor the government.

Dilip Mandal, a self-proclaimed Dalit activist who actually belongs to the OBC caste, has a history of spreading misinformation and abuse on social media. He has been accused of peddling paid PR narratives, promoting fake information, and hurling abuses at Brahmins. Mandal has sparked controversy with provocative posts, including graphics depicting a pig wearing the sacred Janayu thread, a symbol revered by Brahmins. Additionally, he has made derogatory comments against senior leaders of the RSS.

Dilip Mandal, also known as Dilip C Mandal, has a history of making offensive comments, including abusive remarks about Goddess Saraswati. He has also made sexually explicit comments about the goddess. Mandal has ties to US-based NGOs with an anti-India stance, which have invited him to visit the country. According to top officials in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, these US agencies recommended Mandal’s name as Media Advisor to Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Notably, Minister Vaishnaw has been described as a ‘US airdrop’ in Indian politics, having left India to work as an IAS officer and later returning in 2012 as a manager for General Electricals, a US-based company with a lucrative contract with Indian Railways.

Dilip Mandal, known for his anti-Hindutva stance, unexpectedly shifted his stance before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and began praising Narendra Modi and his policies. Despite his history of using abusive language, Mandal was appointed to target judges who deliver verdicts against government policies. Some speculate that Kiren Rijiju, the former Law Minister and current Minority Affairs Minister, who has switched parties from BJP to Congress and back to BJP since January 2014, may be the connection between Mandal and the BJP’s top leadership.

Dilip Mandal has made controversial statements, including a post claiming he married a Brahmin woman not for love, but to exploit her for domestic work, including cooking meat. Right-wing individuals are expressing outrage on social media against the BJP for rewarding turncoats like Mandal with lucrative offers. Since 2016, many BJP spokespersons on TV debates have been former members of other parties, including Sanju Verma (from AAP), Shehzad Poonawala (from Congress), Advocate Gaurav Bhatia (from Samajwadi Party), Shazia Ilmi (from AAP), Gaurav Vallabh (from Congress), and Radhika Khera (from Congress), among others.

Dilip Mandal has recently changed his profile picture on X (formerly Twitter) from a combination of Periyar Ramaswamy and Ambedkar to a duo of Buddha and Ambedkar, potentially indicating a shift towards a more moderate approach in his criticism of Hindus and Hindutva.”
