Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Nov 21, 2024:: Yathindra Siddaramaiah, the son of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a Congress MLC, has ignited a firestorm of controversy with his comments on Hindutva, labeling it a threat to India’s well-being. His remarks have drawn scathing criticism from the opposition BJP, further inflaming tensions within the state.
The recent comments from Congress leaders and its allies in INDIA block targeting Hindutva and Hindu values have sparked controversy and outrage. This isn’t the first time such statements have been made, with DMK leader Udayanidhi comparing Sanatan Hindu Dharma to harmful viruses and diseases like Dengue, Malaria, TB, and Corona . Now, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, has labeled Hindutva as “dangerous.”
While speaking in a public programme, Yathindra said, “Ambedkar once said that this country should be a secular nation. If it becomes a Hindu nation, nothing can be more dangerous for the country. However, nowadays, for their political gain, some parties are trying to turn this country into a mono-religion nation. This is very dangerous, and we should not let this happen.”
But, Yathindra Siddaramaiah failed to provide evidence for his claim that Dr. Ambedkar ‘s intention to add the word “Secular” in the original Indian Constitution preamble. Notably, Dr. Ambedkar did not have any reservations about the term. The word “Secular” was indeed added to the preamble through the 42nd Constitutional Amendment in 1976, during Indira Gandhi’s Emergency rule, sparking debates about its constitutionality.
The BJP has come out swinging against Yathindra’s comments on Hindutva, with MLA Ashwath Narayan leading the charge. Narayan, who represents Malleshwaram constituency in Karnataka, questioned Yathindra’s stance on Hindutva and asked if he even identifies as a Hindu. He criticized Yathindra’s remarks, emphasizing the importance of promoting traditional culture and upholding Sanatana Hindu Dharma.
Narayan didn’t mince words, calling Yathindra’s statement “irresponsible” and demanding that he withdraw his remarks and apologize to the Hindu community. While acknowledging everyone’s right to express opinions, Narayan made it clear that hurting people’s sentiments won’t be tolerated.
It’s worth noting that Ashwath Narayan is not just any ordinary MLA – he’s a prominent figure in the Karnataka BJP. His strong response suggests that the party won’t let Yathindra’s comments slide without a fight.
Meanwhile, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, a prominent BJP leader and its Muslim face, has slammed Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah’s remarks on India being a Hindu-majority nation. Naqvi passionately defended Hindutva, emphasizing its inclusive nature, representing the soul of humanity and the essence of all religions, transcending religious and cultural boundaries.
As a seasoned politician, Naqvi, who served as Union Minister of Minority Affairs from 2016 to 2022, stressed that Hindutva is integral to India’s identity above religion-caste-creed-language and rejected accusations against it as baseless. He went further, accusing critics of Hindutva of harboring a mindset similar to the Taliban, specifically targeting Hindu culture and traditions.
