Upendra Bharti | HENB | Sangam (Prayagraj) | Jan 25, 2025:: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) recently made a statement advocating for Hindu families to have at least three children. This directive was announced during the organization’s two-day meeting of the Kendriya Margdarshak Mandal (Central Advisory Board) held at the Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh.
The VHP’s stance on this issue is likely driven by concerns about demographics and the perceived need to maintain a strong Hindu population. However, it’s worth noting that such directives can be complex and sensitive, as family planning decisions are deeply personal and influenced by various factors, including economic, social, and cultural considerations.
In this significant meeting at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where VHP reiterated their campaign to free Hindu temples from government control. This movement has gained momentum, with the VHP securing approval and support from the saints community.
According to VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal, Hindu saints believe that temples should be managed by devotees, rather than being under government control. This stance is part of the VHP’s broader objective to organize, consolidate, and serve Hindu society, while protecting Hindu Dharma.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Avdheshanand Giri, VHP President Advocate Alok Kumar, and Central General Secretary Bajrang Lal Bagda. The VHP’s campaign has sparked discussions about the relationship between religion and governance in India.
VHP has reiterated its stance on several key issues like the upliftment of India, social harmony, protection of environment, inculcation of Hindu values through family enlightenment and eradication of social evils, self-awareness and duties of good citizens. Notably, the revered saints of the Margdarshak Mandal have emphasized the need to increase the birth rate within Hindu society to maintain demographic balance. To this end, the VHP has advocated for a minimum of three children per Hindu family, deeming this essential for the preservation of Hindu society.
Furthermore, the VHP has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to reclaiming prominent Hindu temples, including those in Ayodhya, Mathura, and Kashi Vishwanath. This objective has remained a cornerstone of the VHP’s agenda since 1984.
The organization’s Central Advisory Board has also expressed support for the Union government’s proposed reforms to the Waqf Board Act. The VHP has urged lawmakers across party lines to cooperate in facilitating the passage of this legislation, citing the need to curb the unchecked powers of the Waqf Board.
Split on ‘Sanatan Board’
There is a Saffron split on ‘Sanatan Board’ as seen on VHP’s meeting as majority of VHP members in the meeting opposed All India Akhara Parishad ‘s call for temple committee.
The All India Akhara Parishad (AIAP) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) are at odds over the proposal for a centralized body to oversee temples across India. The AIAP advocates for a Sanatan Board, while the VHP believes the traditional system, where individual temples manage their own affairs through committees, should continue.
This disagreement highlights the differing views within the Hindu community on how to manage and govern temples. The AIAP, as the largest umbrella organization of sadhus, likely sees a Sanatan Board as a way to unify and streamline temple management. In contrast, the VHP, with its strong ties to the RSS, may be more inclined to preserve the existing system, which allows for greater autonomy and local control.
The VHP’s stance on this issue is consistent with its broader objective of promoting Hindu unity and self-governance. As a key religious arm of the RSS, the VHP has historically been involved in various initiatives aimed at strengthening Hindu society and culture.
Ravindra Puri, President of the All India Akhara Parishad (AIAP), announced that a significant gathering, described as the “Mahakumbh of Sanatan,” will take place at the Mela on January 27. He stated, “At this event, crucial decisions will be made. Given that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are devout Hindus, we seek the establishment of a Sanatan Board as a gesture of gurudakshina.”
Puri added, “While we are still finalizing the details of the January 27 meeting, where we will formally raise the demand for a Sanatan Board, we hope the government is also making preparations to fulfill our wish.”
In a contrast, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) president Alok Kumar has expressed his disagreement with the Akhara Parishad’s demand for a Sanatan Board. Instead of supporting the creation of a Sanatan Board to manage Hindu temples and properties, Kumar advocates for the abolition of Muslim waqf boards as well, stating that such boards are unnecessary.
Kumar emphasized that the VHP wants temple management to remain in the hands of local communities, rather than being controlled by the government or its organizations. This stance reflects the VHP’s desire for greater autonomy in Hindu religious affairs.
The demand for a Sanatan Board has been gaining momentum, with supporters arguing that it would provide a centralized authority to protect Hindu properties and promote equality with Muslim waqf boards. However, critics view this demand as politically motivated and potentially divisive.
Hindu Rashtra Padayatra
The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti organised a Grand ‘Hindu Rashtra Padayatra’ on Jan 22, the first anniversary of Ayodhya ram Temple consecration, at Prayagraj Mahakumbh with a demand of a Hindu Rashtra in Bharat for more than one billion of Hindus in this world.
The rally started at 2:30 pm from Mukti and Mori Marg, continuing for hours with enthusiastic participation from hundreds of devout supporters of Hindu Rashtra. The crowd energetically raised slogans, including: “We want Hindu Rashtra to end Love Jihad,” “We want Hindu Rashtra to end Halal Jihad,” “We want Hindu Rashtra to protect Hindu sadhus,” “Jai Shri Ram,” and “Jayatu Jayatu Hindu Rashtram.”
