Shankaracharya’s Ultimatum: Declare Holy Cow as ‘Rashtra Mata’ within 33 days.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | Sangam Nagri (Prayagraj) | Feb 11, 2025::  Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of the Jyotish Peeth in Uttarakhand, has issued an ultimatum to the central government, demanding a ban on cow slaughter and recognition of the cow as “Rashtra Mata” (National Mother) within 33 days. If the government fails to act by March 17, he has warned the union government to take a “tough decision”.

Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati’s 33-day yatra is set to culminate in Delhi, where he will intensify his campaign to have the cow recognized as “Rashtra Mata” (National Mother).

Addressing reporters at the Shankaracharya Camp in Sector 19, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati stated that his movement to accord the cow “Rashtra Mata” status has been ongoing for the past one and a half years.

“It is mentioned in the scriptures that 33 crore gods and goddesses reside in the body of a cow. We have been running a movement to declare the cow as ‘Rashtra Mata’ for the last one and a half years,” he said.

Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati announced a 33-day yatra, commencing on February 9, a day after Maghi Purnima, and culminating in Delhi on March 17.

Issuing an ultimatum to the government, Swami Avimukteshwaranand stated that the Centre has a 33-day deadline to make a decision on declaring the cow “Rashtra Mata”.

“The central government has 33 days to take a decision. If no decision is made within this timeframe, we will be forced to take a tough decision after 5 pm on March 17,” he asserted.

As the 46th Jagadguru Shankaracharya of the Jyotirmath, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has been a prominent figure in Hindu spiritual leadership. However, his appointment as Shankaracharya has been disputed, with the Supreme Court intervening to stop his coronation in 2022 due to objections from the Shankaracharya of Govardhan Math in Puri.
