Mamata’s ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ remarks: Hindu Monks and leaders issue strong warning.

Mamata Banerjee

‘Bengal elections will be Mrityu Kumbh for you’: Hindu monks’ warning for Mamata Banerjee over Kumbh remark. Sharp reactions emerged.

Akhil Bhartiya Sant Samiti chief Swami Jitendranand Saraswati warned the West Bengal CM that upcoming state polls would be ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ for her political career.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Feb 19, 2025:: The Akhil Bhartiya Sant Samiti chief has slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her ‘mrityu kumbh’ comment on the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This sharp rebuke comes after Banerjee’s remark sparked outrage among Hindu seers and organizations.

Mamata Banerjee’s remark referring to the Maha Kumbh Mela as “Mrityu Kumbh” has sparked a massive controversy, drawing flak from the BJP, Hindu seers, and religious groups. The West Bengal Chief Minister’s comment was made in the context of alleged mismanagement at the event, particularly after a recent stampede in Prayagraj.

Akhil Bhartiya Sant Samiti chief Swami Jitendranand Saraswati condemned Banerjee’s remark, warning her that the upcoming West Bengal elections will prove to be a ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ for her political ambitions. The BJP also slammed Banerjee, with MLAs protesting against her and labeling her an “anti-Hindu chief minister”.

Other Hindu leaders, including Mahant Rajendra Das and Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Arun Giri, also criticized Banerjee’s comment, saying it was an insult to Sanatan Dharma and the Hindu community. They demanded a public apology from Banerjee, stating that her remark was unacceptable and hurtful to Hindus.

The controversy has taken on a political tone, with the BJP seizing the opportunity to attack Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress (TMC) government ahead of the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections in 2026.

The Akhil Bhartiya Sant Samiti has been vocal about its displeasure with politicians making insensitive comments about Hindu traditions and events. In fact, the organization had also criticized RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks on the mandir-masjid issue, stating that religious matters should be decided by religious gurus, not cultural organizations.

It’s worth noting that the Akhil Bhartiya Sant Samiti is a prominent organization of Hindu seers, and its opinions carry significant weight in Hindu circles. By issuing a stern warning to Mamata Banerjee, the organization is sending a strong message that Hindu leaders will not tolerate disrespect towards their traditions and events.

BJP MLAs in West Bengal, led by Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari, protested against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling her an “anti-Hindu chief minister” over her “Mrityu Kumbh” remark about the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela. The BJP condemned Banerjee’s comments, saying such an insult to the event would not be tolerated.

Banerjee’s remark was made in the context of criticizing the management of the Maha Kumbh, which she claimed was poorly planned and resulted in stampedes. However, her choice of words sparked widespread outrage, with many seeing it as an attack on Hindu sentiments.

The BJP legislators branded Banerjee as a “Hindu virodhi mukhyamantri” (anti-Hindu chief minister) and said that the alleged insult to the Maha Kumbh would not be tolerated by the people of India. Swami Jitendranand Saraswati, National General Secretary of Akhil Bhartiya Sant Samiti, also condemned Banerjee’s remark, saying it was unacceptable and hurtful to Hindus.
