Shishir Arya | TNN | Nagpur | March 10, 2025:: Yoga Guru Ramdev called for India to unite countries across the globe through diplomatic means to rise against the US, and also find an alternative to the dollar as an international currency. He also endorsed the recent demands to raze Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb, calling it an icon of slavery.

Speaking to TOI on the sidelines of the function to inaugurate Patanjali Ayurved’s Food and Herbal plant at Mihan (on March 9, 2025), he termed Donald Trump’s policies as ‘tariff terrorism’. The type of nationalism of the US, which runs down other countries, cannot be accepted in a civilised world order, he said.

India should take up a diplomatic campaign, bringing other countries and even global outfits which take up the cause of democracy and justice in the world, against the US. Together, they should take up the case before the United Nations and also the International Court of Justice, the yoga guru said.

Trump has antagonised almost every nation in the world, be it Canada, Europe, China, the Middle East, and even India. The extremist nationalism of the US cannot be accepted. If a country is powerful, that does not give it the right to trample upon others. The stance is not only undemocratic but attacks the economic freedom of the global order, Ramdev said.

He called Trump’s actions to make the dollar costly against other currencies ‘economic terrorism’. Ramdev also flayed a recent attack on a temple in California.

He also hit out at Russian President Vladmir Putin, China’s Xi Jinpin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying that India should emerge as a powerful nation to counter such elements.

On Aurangzeb, he said the Mughal king cannot be a national hero. His life was marked by atrocities on the people of the country and religious fundamentalism. The heroes are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap, Chandrashekhar Azad, and other legendary figures.

“The tomb is a mere icon of slavery, and it is for any self-respecting nation to eliminate it. No country conserves structures that remind them of slavery. Rather, those who glorify Aurangzeb lack the spirit of Indianness,” he said. Lately, there have been demands to bring down Aurangzeb’s tomb, which is located in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district.
