Upendra Bharti | HENB | Lucknow | March 27, 2025:: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has assured that the state is safe for people of all faiths, emphasizing that Muslims are safe as long as Hindus remain protected. In a recent interview with ANI, Adityanath highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has not witnessed any major communal riots since the BJP took power in 2017. This statement aligns with the BJP’s nationwide strategy of inclusivity, ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’.
Adityanath also pointed out that before 2017, Uttar Pradesh often witnessed communal clashes, affecting both Hindu and Muslim communities. He emphasized that peace and security are interlinked for all communities, stressing the importance of maintaining harmony between Hindus and Muslims.
“They will have the freedom to practise all religious customs. But can 50 Hindus be safe among 100 Muslim families? No. Bangladesh is an example. Before this, Pakistan was an example. What happened in Afghanistan? If there is smoke or someone is being hit, we should be careful before we get hit. That is what needs to be taken care of,” UP CM argued in his way citing examples from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. He emphasized the importance of protecting Hindus, stating that if Hindus are safe, Muslims will also be safe.
Additionally, Adityanath addressed the Nagpur incident, where clashes erupted over demands to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb, stating that those indulging in violence must be countered firmly.
Actually, Yogi Adityanath has his legacy of his Guru Mahant Avaidyanath, who was actually a leader of Hindu mahasabha and joined BJP in his last leg of his political life. Avaidyanath was elected MLA from Maniram Assembly segment five times – 1962, 1967, 1969 (resigned mid-term), 1974 and 1977, variously as Independent or Hindu Mahasabha’s or Janata Party’s candidate. He was elected Lok Sabha member from Gorakhpur as an Independent candidate in 1970 but lost 1971 General Election when Indira wave swept India. He won again in 1989 as candidate of Hindu Mahasabha. Avaidyanath was elected MP from the same seat in 1991 and 1996 as Bharatiya Janata Party nominee. He retired from electoral politics after that, and his protege Yogi Adityanath was elected to Lok Sabha in 1998 General Election.
Mahant Avaidyanath’s guru Mahant Digvijaynath was also a Hindu Mahasabha leader. He was elected to Lok Sabha in 1967 General election from Gorakhpur.
Since the BJP’s secular philosophy of appeasement cannot compete with the uncompromised tradition of staunch Hindutva, UP CM Adityanath is naturally constantly outspoken against Muslim intimidation of Hindus. The line of appeasement is thus struck by Adityanath’s remark, “Can 50 Hindus ever be safe among 100 Muslims anyway?”
