B Upendran | HENB | Bhagyanagar (Hyderabad) | April 8, 2025:: In an attacking way, T Raja Singh, BJP MLA from Telangana’s Goshamahal Assembly Constituency, has ignited a fresh wave of controversy. During a Ram Navami procession in Hyderabad, Singh urged Hindus to travel to Maharashtra and demolish the tomb of tyrant Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
A Call to Action
Addressing a crowd, Singh directly appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to allow a date and time for the act. “We Hindus from Telangana will come and remove the grave of Aurangzeb,” he declared. This statement has sparked a heated debate, with many questioning the implications of such an action.
Aurangzeb: The Tyrant Ruler
Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor, is remembered for his brutal reign and intolerance towards other religions. His conflicts with Maratha king Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are well-documented, with Aurangzeb’s forces ultimately capturing and imprisoning Shivaji’s son, Sambhaji Maharaj. The Mughal emperor’s brutality towards Sambhaji Maharaj is particularly infamous, with the young king being subjected to torture and eventually executed in 1689. This dark chapter in Indian history continues to evoke strong emotions, with many viewing Aurangzeb’s actions as a symbol of oppression and tyranny.
Waqf Properties and Land Jihad
Singh’s comments come amid ongoing discussions on the status of Waqf properties in Telangana. The BJP MLA alleged that AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and members of his party had grabbed and sold several Waqf lands in the city. He urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged irregularities.
A History of Controversy
This is not the first time Singh has made headlines for his controversial remarks. In 2022, he was suspended from the BJP for derogatory comments against Prophet Muhammad. However, his suspension was revoked in 2024 ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
A Complex Issue
The issue of Waqf properties and land ownership has been a contentious one in Telangana. Singh’s comments have added fuel to the fire, with many calling for greater clarity on the matter. As the debate continues, one thing is clear: the issue of Waqf properties and land ownership will remain a hot topic in the region.
