At Least 3 Killed In Bengal Waqf Protests, 5 More Border Force Companies Brought In After HC Order. Mamata Is Trying To Infuriate The Muslims With Waqf.

The Union Govt has promulgated the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, but Muslims are targeting and killing Hindus in the state  under the protection of WB CM Mamata Banerjee.

Sharbari Das | HENB | Kolkata | April 13, 2025:: Though there are several petitions against Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 in the apex court, and Muslims are protesting in various states in an legitimate after the Union Govt has promulgated the said Act, the Muslims are targeting and killing Hindus in the state  under the protection of WB CM Mamata Banerjee. Muslims in Bengal have crossed all limits of hooliganism to show their decent against the present Waqf Act Amendment.

Reports came in in the tune of significant property damage, with vehicles torched and highways blocked. Authorities responded by deploying the Rapid Action Force and imposing prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The district administration suspended internet services in the Jangipur sub-division to prevent the spread of misinformation and communal tension.

At least three people were killed in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district as protests against the Centre’s Waqf (Amendment) Act spiraled into violence over the weekend, prompting chief minister Mamata Banerjee to declare that the law will not be implemented in the state. Last time this Murshidabad saw a flare up in the CAA (Citizenship Amendment ACT) row when fanatic Muslims attacked Hindu houses, temples, shops , Govt properties including torching railways stations.

Attacks upon the Hindus by the radical Muslims in the Waqf row have reached an unbelievable scale of  persecution.

A special bench of the Calcutta High Court ordered deployment of Central Forces in Murshidabad’s Jangipur. BJP MLA and leader of opposition in WB Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari approached the Calcutta High Court for its intervention as the State Govt has visibly failed to maintain the law and order situation in the district.  The situations of Dhuliyanganj, Samsherganj, Suti and Jalagi apart from Jangipur were also reported tense and heavy police deployment was made to control the situation.

In response to the growing violence, West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari moved the Calcutta High Court, seeking deployment of central forces in the state. “With communal riots spreading rapidly across West Bengal, I sought immediate intervention from the state government for central paramilitary forces. When the state government didn’t act, I approached the High Court for urgent intervention. My plea has been accepted, and the division bench will hear the PIL,” he said.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared that her state would not implement the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

MP Abhishek Banerjee, who is Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, also made an appeal for calm and claimed that some forces are trying to “spread unrest in Bengal”.

Soon after, the Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a video conference with the Chief Secretary and DGP of West Bengal. The DGP briefed the Secretary that the situation was tense but under control and was being monitored closely.

Mr Mohan stated that apart from nearly 300 BSF personnel locally available in Murshidabad, additional 5 Companies have been deployed at the request of the state government.

The Centre, said Mr Mohan, is also closely monitoring the situation and has assured the state all possible assistance.

A father and his son from a Hindu family (Hargobinda Das 72 yrs and Chandan Das 45 yrs in Shamsherganj on 12.04.2025) were killed in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district after violent clashes, reportedly linked to ongoing protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

The victims were found with multiple stab wounds inside their home in Jafrabad, a locality in the violence-stricken Samserganj area. The family claims that Muslim miscreants looted their house before fatally stabbing the two.

In a separate incident, another individual suffered a bullet injury earlier in Dhulian, Samserganj. The district has seen widespread unrest, with large-scale Islamic violence erupting on Friday in Samserganj and Suti areas during protests against the contentious law.

Reportedly, 118 people have been arrested in connection with the violence that broke out in Muslim-majority Murshidabad district on Friday.

Four rounds were reportedly fired by police on Friday, injuring two. Vehicles were  torched, roads blocked, and stones hurled at police in districts like Malda, South 24 Parganas, and Hooghly. DGP Rajeev Kumar said strong action would follow and urged people not to fall for “rumour mongering.”

In another development, at least 18 police personnel were injured as a protest rally demanding the rollback of the Waqf (Amendment) Act turned violent in Tripura’s Unakoti district today.

BJP attacks TMC, demands NIA probe into Murshidabad violence

Meanwhile, political leaders have sharply reacted to the ongoing violence. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi commented on the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, calling the protests in West Bengal a political ploy. “After completing all the constitutional procedures in a systematic manner, the Waqf Bill came to Parliament, was discussed by the JPC, and passed by both Houses. It then received the President’s approval and became law. Yet, some are using it for political gain. It is sad that this is happening only in West Bengal. This raises the question if Mamata Banerjee’s politics is becoming a challenge for the entire country,” he said.

State President of WB BJP and Union Minister Dr Sukanta Majumder blamed WB CM for her communal politics and  polarization of votes by fomenting the minority Muslims.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on April 2 and 3, respectively. It was passed in both Houses and later received the President’s assent, after which it became a law. On April 5, President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

While the Opposition has been protesting against the Waqf Act, the BJP has launched a ‘Waqf Reforms Awareness Campaign’, which will run from April 20 to May 5. The initiative will tell the benefits of the Waqf Act to the Muslim community.
