 Bhavan Das | HENB |  Kolkata | May  12, 2025:: In a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee government, West Bengal Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, has accused the state police of selectively harassing and detaining Hindu youths in Murshidabad district. Adhikari alleged that the police action is a direct consequence of the Chief Minister’s recent visit to the district, where communal tensions ran high following violent protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

A Pattern of Appeasement?

Adhikari claimed that the police are taking advantage of the current national situation and the resulting media diversion to target Hindu youths in Murshidabad. “The police atrocities started soon after the Chief Minister returned from Murshidabad,” Adhikari alleged. He also criticized Banerjee for not visiting the areas most affected by communal violence and for making statements that targeted a monk of Bharat Sevashram Sangha.

BJP to Provide Legal Support

The BJP has decided to provide full legal support to the affected Hindu youths through its legal cell. Adhikari warned of massive protest demonstrations in Murshidabad if the police atrocities don’t stop immediately. “Such oppression of Hindus for appeasement politics will not be tolerated at any cost,” he said, emphasizing the party’s resolve to take a strong stance on the issue.

The district witnessed widespread communal violence and vandalism of Hindu temples and properties following protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. Adhikari’s allegations have sparked a fresh controversy, with the BJP demanding action against police atrocities and accusing the Mamata government of pursuing appeasement politics.
