Upendra Bharti | HENB | Mumbai | June 6, 2025:: In a recent statement, BJP leader and Fisheries Development Minister Nitesh Rane ignited a firestorm of controversy by declaring that India is a “Hindu Rashtra” and that only Hindutva ideas can save the country. Rane’s comments, made during an interaction with the media in Solapur, have sparked a heated debate about the role of Hindutva in Indian politics.
Rane’s Hindutva Ideology
According to Rane, Hindutva is the root of the country, and everyone will have to accept it. He also claimed that the concept of secularism was not part of the original draft of the Constitution written by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, but was instead introduced by the Congress party. Rane’s assertion that leaders from all political parties, including the Congress, are now embracing Hindutva ideas has been seen as an attempt to legitimize his own ideology.
Potential Alliance between Shiv Sena and MNS
When asked about the possibility of an alliance between Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led by Raj Thackeray, Rane expressed skepticism. While he claimed that he would be happy if the two parties came together, he doubted that Raj Thackeray would ever forget the repeated insults he suffered at the hands of Uddhav Thackeray and his family. Rane even jokingly suggested that a book titled “Hell on Matoshree” could be written about the alleged mistreatment of Raj Thackeray.
Implications of Rane’s Remarks
Rane’s comments have significant implications for the political landscape of Maharashtra. As a prominent BJP leader, his statements carry weight and may influence public opinion. The controversy surrounding his remarks has also raised questions about the role of Hindutva in Indian politics and the potential for further polarization.
Reactions and Response
The reaction to Rane’s comments has been mixed, with some leaders and citizens expressing support for his views, while others have criticized him for promoting divisive rhetoric. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how Rane’s remarks will impact the political discourse in Maharashtra and beyond.
