Hindu Protests: CafePress Removes Controversial Products Featuring Hindu Deities From Online Sale. 

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | June 8, 2025::  CafePress has removed two products from its online store after receiving complaints about their depiction of Hindu deities Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha on thong panties. The products were taken down following intervention from Hindu community leaders and advocates, who argued that the items hurt Hindu sentiments.

After three weeks since the complaint lodged  against CafePress for blasphemous depiction of Hindu Deities in their Thong Panties, the  CafePress authorites finally deactivated two objectionable links at 1. https://www.cafepress.com/+prosperity_classic_thong,32366991 and 2. https://www.cafepress.com/+charlotte_n_classic_thong,629478313  in which they derogatorily painted the pictures of Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha.

Background

The controversy began when members of the Hindu community noticed the products and reported them to authorities. Advocate Amita Sachadeva lodged a complaint, and Upananda Brahmachari, Editor of Hindu Existence, directly contacted CafePress, urging them to remove the products citing  “humiliating the Hindu sentiments in an utter derogation of Hindu deities”.

Resolution

CafePress complied with the request, deactivating the links to the offending products. The company prioritized respecting religious sentiments and avoiding potential offense.

The removal of the products has been seen as a positive step by many in the Hindu community, who value respect for their beliefs and practices. The incident highlights the importance of cultural sensitivity in online commerce.
