Communal Tensions Grip Dhubri Town, Assam: Prohibitory Orders Imposed After Hanuman Temple Desecrated With Beef & Cow Head. 

Upendra Bharti | HENB | Dhubri, Assam | June 10, 2025::  In the wake of communal tensions sparked by the alleged desecration of a Hanuman temple during Bakri Eid with beef and a cow head, prohibitory orders have been imposed in Dhubri town. The district administration, led by Dhubri District Commissioner Dibakar Nath, invoked Section 163(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, to maintain peace and public tranquillity.

The Incident

The tensions began on Sunday when alleged cow meat, including a cow head, was discovered as thrown at the Hanuman temple at Balurchar area of Dhubri town. Protests started by the local Hindu community in Ward No. 3 of Dhubri town there after. The situation further deteriorated on Monday with riot-like scenes reported in several areas after alleged cow skin and meat were discovered at Chatianatala and Baluchar area. Police were forced to use tear gas to disperse agitated crowds. Huge numbers of cows amd baffalos were slaughter accross Dhubri town violating the rules in force. Muslims storted the beef in their shops as reported.

Prohibitory Orders

Under the prohibitory orders, all shops and commercial establishments within Dhubri town limits have been directed to remain closed until further notice. The assembly of five or more persons in public places for demonstrations, rallies, or meetings has also been prohibited. District Magistrate Nath warned that any violation of the prohibitory order would attract penal action under Section 188 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other relevant laws. The prohibitory orders were imposed after communal tension gripped the Dhubri town following the alleged recovery of cow meat from multiple locations.

Security Measures

To ensure safety and prevent further disturbances, law enforcement agencies, CRPF, and paramilitary forces have been deployed across the town. Additional forces have been kept on stand-by as a precautionary measure. Security remains tight in all sensitive areas.

Arrests and Investigation

One individual, identified as Ramjan Ali, has been arrested in connection with the recovery of suspected meat near the Hanuman Mandir. Investigations are underway to determine the motive and those responsible for the incident.

Appeal for Peace

The District Commissioner has appealed to the public to maintain peace and not fall prey to misinformation. Authorities have urged all sections of society to cooperate with the administration and help restore normalcy in the town.
