Convicted Culprit Rampal’s Books Carrying Objectionable Content on Hindu Gods: Allahabad HC Seeks UP Govt’s Response.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | July 15, 2025::  The Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to respond regarding the publication of anti-Hindu, anti-Sanatani books by Sant Rampal’s institutions, which allegedly contain indecent and higly derogatory portrayals of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. A division bench comprising Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Om Prakash Shukla passed the order on July 10.

Background of the Case

The petition, filed by advocate Ranjana Agnihotri on behalf of the Hindu Front for Justice, a Trust, and its 17 members and office bearers, seeks a ban on the books published by Sant Rampal’s institutions and an investigation by a special task force. The petitioners allege that the books contain objectionable and obscene remarks against Hindu deities, hurting the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus.

Allegations Against Sant Rampal

The petitioners claim that Sant Rampal Singh, presently lodged in jail, and his associates are “rogue persons” who are allegedly acting with deliberate and malicious intent to outrage the religious feelings of Sanatani Hindus.

In the Writ
It is cleary mentioned in the writ petition: “That the opposite parties No. 9 to 12 are wicked minded persons, deliberately and maliciously with intention to outrage the religious feeling of Sanatani Hindus are printing, publishing, selling, distributing and delivering free of cost books, literature, posters, and pamphlets containing grossly offensive and provocative language and portraying Hindu Gods and Goddesses in very ugly and shameful manner as per their own imagination. For this purpose, social media platform is also widely used. The electronic communications is an attempt to promote disharmony and feeling of enmity, hatred, and ill will between different religious groups the same is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between different religious groups which disturbs or is likely to disturb the public tranquillity.”

Again, “That the opposite parties no. 9 to 12 and their hoodlum and vandals are organising a roguish and wicked movement and are giving training to their goons to use criminal force and violence against the followers of Sanatan dharma including the petitioners. These persons are pressurising and compelling the petitioners to follow their kingpin Ram pal the opposite party no. 12.”

The opposite parties No. 9 to 12 in the case are 9. Prachar Prasar Samiti and Sarv Sangat through its secretary Satlok Ashram Tohana Road, Barwala, District Hissar, State of Hariyana 10. Kabir Printers, C-117 Sector 3 Bavana Industrial Area, New Delhi 11.Naam Dan Centre of Ram Pal, Address Devlok Colony Gauri, Kanpur Road, Lucknow, Mobile number 7827800030. 12. Rampal through Jailor, Hisar Central Jail-2, Rajgarh Road, Azad Nagar, Hisar Gangwa, Haryana 125007.

The petioners urged strictest actions against the above offenedrs including the total ban on the objectionable books of Rampal written against Sanatan Hindu Dharma.

Court’s Direction

The court had asked the state government to provide information about the action taken in this case by July 15. The government must clarify whether it plans to take any action on the representation filed before it seeking forfeiture of the allegedly objectionable publications under Section 98 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS), 2023. This provision empowers the state government to declare certain publications as seized and issue search warrants for their seizure.

– Allegedly Objectionable Books: Titles such as “Jeene ki Rah”, “Gyan Ganga”, “Mukti Bodh”, “Geeta Tera Gyan Amrit”, “Garima Geeta Ki”, “Kabeer Saagar ka Saralarth”, “Kabeer Parmeshwara”, and “Andh Shradha Bhakti-Khatra-e-Jaan” are mentioned in the petition.
– Alleged Defamation: These books allegedly defamed the statutes and venerations of Vedas, Geeta, Gayatri, Devi Durga, Ganseh, Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh, and ridiculously claimed Kabir as Parameshwara—the Supreme God—against the faith of crores of Sanatani Hindus.
– Culprit Sant Rampal’s Status: The self-styled godman, described as a habitual law-breaker, criminal, rouge, wicked, head of goons etc. is currently lodged in Hissar jail, serving a life sentence.                                                                              – Sections of BNS against Rampal: Several sections are sought to be imposed against Rampal viz Sec 196, Sec 197, Sec 294, Sec 295, Sec 299, Sec 302 ad rge relevant sections of The Information and Technology Act 2000.
– Government Representation: Senior advocate SB Pandey, Assistant Solicitor General, represented the Centre in court, assisted by advocate Anand Dwivedi.

Next Steps
The case was scheduled for further hearing on July 15, where the state government was expected to provide details about the action taken in response to the allegations. However, as the designated court closed its operations at 12 noon, the next hearing of the case is likely to be fixed for the following week.
