BJP Leader Agnimitra Paul Apologizes After Backlash Over Wearing ‘Disrespectful’ Lord Ram Saree.

Sabita Sen | HENB | Kolkata | July 21, 2025:: A recent incident involving BJP leader Agnimitra Paul, General Secretary of the West Bengal unit, has sparked widespread outrage and controversy. Paul, a prominent figure in the party, has been accused of disrespecting the sentiments of millions of Hindus by wearing a Ram Nam saree with the name “Jai Shri Ram” and a picture of Lord Ram’s face printed upside down.

The controversy erupted after some pictures of Paul’s appearance surfaced, showing her seemingly disrespecting the revered name of Lord Ram with every step. The backlash was swift, with many taking to social media to express their hurt and outrage. She was effectively ‘kicking’ the names of Ram every time she steps which were printed in the lower edge of her saree.

Such indecent wearing of Ram Nam Saree by BJP leader Agnimitra Paul has sparked controversy and widespread outrage as the BJP leader went to the PM Narendra Modis’ programme in Durgapur on July 18 and posted those pictures in her X handle.

Many viewers have raised objections to Agnimitra Paul’s post, criticizing her for wearing a Shri Ram saree in a manner that they perceive as indecent and derogatory. Moving with those objections,  Paul clarified her position y saying, “If I have unknowingly hurt anyone’s feelings, I am truly sorry.”

As Ram is not a symbol of any politics, but worshipped by the trust and faith of crores of Sanatai people, Agnimitra has hurt the sentiments of millions of Hindus. Some critics have commented on social media that if she has started using ‘Ram’ in such a manner before coming to power, she might use it in more inappropriate ways if she gets more power.

Earlier, the Hindu Samaj Party had protested this incident in its WhatsApp groups and demanded a public apology from Paul.

Though the pictures available in the social media connecting Agnimitra Paul could be verified by HENB, it is highly ojectionable and condemnable  if anybody uses the Picture and Name of Lord Ram in an indecent and derogatory way.
