Land Dispute Turns Violent: Muslim Men Attack Hindu Widow in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur.

Shubhro Basak | HENB | Dhaka | July 24, 2025:: A Hindu widow named Nila Rani (44) was attacked in Manipur village of Atgaon union in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur in Bangladesh. She was assaulted on her way home after visiting her crop land at around 6 pm on Tuesday. The family of the injured Nila Rani alleged that due to past enmity, the three sons of Md. Mozammel Haque of the same union—former UP member Babul Rahman, Tariqul Rahman, Shariful Islam, and Babul Rahman’s son Munna—combined and carried out the attack in a planned manner. Nila Rani’s son Hridoy said that when his mother was alone while returning home, the accused suddenly attacked her with sharp weapons and fled. The locals rescued her and immediately admitted her to the Bochaganj Upazila Health Complex. Currently,

Nila Rani is undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex. The family said that preparations are underway to file a case in this incident. When contacted, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station concerned could not be reached for comment.

Islamic attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh have continued during the interim Yunus government. According to statistics provided by the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, there have been about 2,500 violent attacks, including looting, vandalism, murder, rape, and arson, on the minority Hindus of Bangladesh in the last 11 months.

Last Tuesday, the mutilated body of a Hindu woman was recovered under mysterious circumstances in Bagerhat, Bangladesh. The body of a 20-year-old Hindu woman named Arpita Saha was recovered from a fish pond in Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat district, Bangladesh. According to reports, she had been missing since Monday (July 21).

Arpita is the daughter of a saree merchant named Anand Saha. It is reported that Arpita had been harassed by local Muslim youths for quite some time. Given that Arpita knew how to swim well, it is unlikely that she simply drowned. The deceased’s family suspects that Arpita may have been raped, murdered, and thrown into the water.
