The incident occurred on August 19, 2025, after a previous scuffle between the two students escalated into violence outside the school premises.

The deceased student, Nayan, belonged to the Hindu Sindhi community, while the accused, Murshed, is from the Muslim community. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a prior dispute that worsened over time. The victim succumbed to his injuries on August 20, sparking outrage among parents, locals, and community members.

Protests and Investigation

Protesters, including members of the Sindhi community and right-wing groups like ABVP, VHP, and Bajrang Dal, gathered in large numbers, alleging negligence by the school administration. The demonstrations turned chaotic, with reports of vandalism, assaults on school staff, and a road blockade. Police intervened with a lathicharge to disperse the crowd.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has registered an FIR and detained the accused minor under the Juvenile Justice Act. The police are investigating the case, and an adequate police force has been deployed to maintain law and order.

Demands for Justice

The victim’s family and community members are demanding speedy justice and exemplary punishment for the accused. The Sindhi Central Panchayat president, Kamal Mehtani, said, “We demand that they be caught immediately and given strict punishment. The school management should also be held accountable.”

School’s Response

The school administration has come under fire for alleged negligence and failure to prevent the incident. The District Education Officer has issued a notice to the school, questioning how a weapon was brought onto the premises and why the initial quarrel wasn’t addressed promptly.
