Mob Fury in Belagavi: Hindutva Groups Torch Truck Over Alleged Beef Transport.

B Upendran | HENB | Belagavi | Sept 24, 2025:: In a shocking incident of mob violence, members of Hindutva groups, specifically the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, torched a truck allegedly transporting beef in Karnataka’s Belagavi district. The incident occurred on the night of September 22 near the Sri Siddeshwara Temple on the Ugar-Ainapur road in Athani taluk.

The Incident Unfolds

According to eyewitnesses, the truck was intercepted by the Hindutva groups on suspicion of carrying beef. After allegedly finding several tonnes of beef inside, the mob assaulted the driver and set the vehicle on fire. By the time police arrived, the truck had been gutted. Fire and Emergency Services personnel, aided by staff from the Ugar Sugar Factory, managed to extinguish the blaze.

Police Action

Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S Guled confirmed that two separate cases have been registered. The first case was booked under the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act against three persons allegedly involved in transporting the meat. The second case was registered against six people allegedly involved in torching the truck, under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to arson and robbery.

Arrests Made

Nine people have been arrested in connection with the incident, including six individuals accused of torching the truck and three persons allegedly involved in transporting the meat.

Investigation Underway

The police are investigating the incident and gathering evidence to determine the extent of involvement of the Hindutva groups and the truck drivers. The incident has sparked tensions in the area, and authorities are working to maintain law and order.

This incident highlights the growing concerns about vigilantism and mob violence in India, particularly in cases related to cattle transportation and beef consumption. The incident also raises questions about the role of Hindutva groups in perpetuating violence and the need for authorities to take strict action against those involved.
