Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | New Delhi | Sept 27, 2025:: A recent address by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has sparked a strong reaction from India. Sharif’s speech centered around the India-Pakistan conflict, the Indus Waters Treaty, and the Kashmir issue, with a particular focus on what he termed “India’s Hindutva-driven extremism.”
India’s Swift Rebuttal
Hours after Sharif’s address, India responded strongly, with Petal Gahlot, First Secretary in India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, rubbishing Sharif’s claims as “absurd theatrics” and accusing Islamabad of glorifying terrorism. Gahlot specifically targeted Sharif’s “victory” claim in the conflict with India, as well as his assertion that Pakistani forces had turned Indian jets into “scrap and dust.” Swiftly, India tears into Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif’s UN Speech calling out ‘Bizarre’ claims on ‘Hindutva Extremism’. In her sharp rebuttal, Petal Gahlot mentioned ‘No shame of Shariff as Pakistan sheltered Osama bin Laden’.
The Controversy
Sharif’s claims about India’s actions during Operation Sindoor, a military operation targeting terrorists and terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pak-occupied Kashmir, were a major point of contention. While India maintains that the operation did not harm civilians, Sharif claimed that India’s attack on “civilians” prompted Pakistan’s response.
False Claims and Rebuttal
Sharif also claimed that Pakistani forces downed seven Indian jets during the conflict, sending them to “scrap and dust.” However, the Indian Air Force had previously confirmed that it shot down five Pakistani fighter jets during Operation Sindoor, and one large Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft was also destroyed. Gahlot’s rebuke highlighted the discrepancy in Sharif’s claims.
Terrorism and the Indus Waters Treaty
The diplomatic row also touched on the issue of terrorism, with Gahlot reminding Sharif of Pakistan’s role in sheltering Osama bin Laden and continuing to harbor terrorism. The Indus Waters Treaty was another point of contention, with Sharif terming India’s move to hold the treaty in abeyance an “act of war.”
Kashmir and Hindutva Extremism
Sharif’s speech also referenced the Kashmir issue, with him assuring Kashmiri people of Pakistan’s support and condemning what he called “India’s Hindutva-driven extremism.” Gahlot responded by stating that Pakistan must shut down all terrorist camps and extradite terrorists wanted by India.
Ridiculously, Sharif failed to utter ‘Hindutva’ with the right pronunciation, however.
The diplomatic row between India and Pakistan at the UN highlights the ongoing tensions between the two countries, particularly on issues related to terrorism, the Indus Waters Treaty, and Kashmir.
As a matter of fact, Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif’s recent speech at the UN General Assembly has an evilish impact, with many viewing it as an attempt to deflect attention from Pakistan’s own issues with terrorism. By making false accusations against India and its Hindutva ideology, Sharif’s speech has been seen as a thinly veiled attempt to shift the focus away from Pakistan’s own role in harboring and promoting terrorism in the region.
Extreme situation of Pakistani Minorities under Islamists
Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif’s recent speech in the UNGA exposes the country’s role in favor of terrorism through false accusations against neighboring country India regarding Hindutva, in order to break the peace in South and Southeast Asian countries, obviously.
Pakistan’s government and media often focus on perceived grievances against Muslims in India, while overlooking the plight of minority groups, including Hindus, within Pakistan. Human rights organizations and reports have documented instances of violence, discrimination, and persecution faced by Hindus and other minorities in Pakistan, including forced conversions, kidnappings, and attacks on temples.
Pakistan never acknowledges that Hindu minorities are extreme victims of deadly Islamist terrorism within the country.
