Upendra Bharti | HENB |  Lucknow | Nov 4, 2025::  A minor Muslim girl has been sent to a detention home and her parents arrested after she posted an Instagram reel allegedly making derogatory remarks against Hindu deities. The video, which surfaced on October 27, reportedly aimed to attract more followers on social media.

The incident took place in Etawah district, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Tuesday.

The one-minute clip quickly went viral, triggering outrage across social media platforms. Several users tagged the police, demanding action, while local Hindu organisations staged protests and filed a formal complaint against the girl and her family, who were associated with an online campaign identified as #I❤️Muhammad.

Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation. The minor was placed in a detention home, while her parents were taken into custody for allegedly being aware of the video and failing to report or remove it. Authorities have also registered a case against another individual suspected of involvement, who is currently absconding.

“The minor girl made derogatory remarks against Hindu Gods. Her parents were aware of it, and some others were involved. She admitted that she made the video to gain more viewers and followers,” said a police official.
“We urge the public not to share or circulate the video further. Strict action will be taken against those found spreading it,” the official added.

According to reports, the teenager, who was active in social media campaigns targeting a specific audience, created the controversial content in an attempt to attract Muslim followers.

A video of the girl’s confession has since emerged, in which she expressed remorse for her actions.

“I made a mistake by making the video. I apologise. I will never do such a thing again. I request people not to make the video viral,” she said in the clip.

Police have appealed for calm as tensions simmer in parts of the community, assuring that the matter is being handled in accordance with the law and that no one should attempt to take justice into their own hands.
