Controversy Erupts over Muslim Aggression in MBBS Admission List at SMVD Medical College.

42 out of 50 MBBS Seats at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College Allotted to Muslim Students, Controversy Erupts, Hindus Protest.

Hridya Bharti | HENB | Jammu | Nov 8, 2025:: A controversy has erupted in Jammu and Kashmir over the MBBS admission list at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Medical College, where 42 out of 50 seats have been allotted to Muslim students, while 7 seats have been allotted to Hindu students and one seat to a Sikh student. The BJP and the Bajrang Dal have questioned the admission list, alleging discrimination. The College is located in Katra, in Reasi district.

The Issue

The SMVD Medical College, run by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, has been at the center of the controversy. The college has 50 MBBS seats, and the admission list has sparked concerns about representation and fairness. Senior BJP leader Dr. Parnish Mahajan and the state Bajrang Dal have expressed concerns, stating that the medical college is funded by a Hindu organization, and therefore, the admission process should reflect fairness and inclusivity. High Islamic aggression in the MBBS admission list at SMVD Medical College has sparked controversy, with 84% of the seats occupied by Muslim students, raising concerns about fair and reasonable representation.

Admission Rules

The admission process for medical colleges in India is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG score. The seats are allocated based on the NEET UG score, and the admission process is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). There are three types of quotas:

– 15% All India Quota: Reserved for students from all over the country, with seats allocated based on NEET UG scores and reservation rules.
– 85% State Quota: Reserved for students from the respective state, with seats allocated based on NEET UG scores and reservation rules.
– Private Medical College Quota: Private medical colleges have management and NRI quotas.

SMVD Medical College

The SMVD Medical College is a government medical college managed by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The college received a donation of Rs 500 crore to establish the medical college. The MBBS course commenced at this medical college from the academic session 2025-26. The controversy has raised questions about the admission process and representation in the medical college.

As the controversy has sparked a debate about fairness and inclusivity in the admission process, it remains to be seen how the authorities respond to the concerns raised.
