Deceitful Conversions Spark Violence: Bible and Quran Burned in Haryana’s Rohtak.

Tensions Rise in Haryana After Video Shows Villagers Burning Religious Texts.

A video has surfaced showing copies of the Bible and Quran being burned in apparent retaliation by Arya Samaj Members against deceitful conversion activities.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Nov 16, 2025::A disturbing video circulating on social media has drawn nationwide attention after appearing to show several Christian residents of a village in Rohtak district of Haryana being compelled to burn copies of the Bible and the Quran. The incident, believed to have taken place on November 9, has prompted sharp reactions from across the political and social spectrum.

According to local accounts, a group of individuals associated with the Arya Samaj confronted a number of Christian families, accusing them of participating in “deceitful conversion activities” targeting Hindu villagers. In the video, a crowd is seen surrounding the families, with some members shouting insults and demanding the public renunciation of their faith. One voice can be heard calling the community members “traitors,” while another derogatorily refers to their holy books.

The footage shows the villagers reluctantly placing the religious texts into a fire as onlookers film the scene. The video spread rapidly online, triggering outrage among civil rights groups, religious leaders, and activists who condemned the coercive nature of the act and warned of escalating hostility toward religious minorities in the region.

This incident comes amid a series of clashes and accusations related to religious conversions in different parts of the country. On October 21, Uttar Pradesh police arrested three individuals, including a pastor in Bareilly, for allegedly attempting to entice economically disadvantaged Hindu families to convert to Christianity. In an unrelated incident in August, members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal reportedly stormed a church in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, claiming that forced conversions were underway.

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh also recently detained a man identified as Changoor Baba for his alleged role in what investigators described as an international Islamic conversion network involving significant foreign funding.

Together, these events highlight an intensifying climate of suspicion and confrontation surrounding religious conversion across several states. While some Hindu groups argue that coercive or deceitful conversions are a growing problem, rights organizations warn that vigilante actions—such as the reported incident in Rohtak—risk further inflaming communal tensions and undermining legal processes designed to address such disputes. The situation highlights the need for enacting an anti-conversion law to curb deceitful and forceful conversion tactics employed by both Islamist and evangelical groups.

Local police in Haryana have yet to issue a detailed statement on the video, though officials say they are verifying the authenticity of the footage and assessing what transpired.
