B Upendran | HENB | Hyderabad | Nov 19, 2025:: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has launched a scathing attack on the TDP-BJP coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, accusing it of neglecting Hindu Dharma and temple management. The party staged a protest, highlighting several issues, including the alleged mismanagement of temples, Hindu interest, cow slaughter, and beef export.

Temple Controversy Deepens

The controversy began with the removal of Rani Sadasivamurthy, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara Veda Vignana Peetham, which the YSRCP termed as “unjust and baseless.” The party condemned the TTD Trust Board for reportedly insulting Mr. Sadasivamurthy.

Beef Seizure and Temple Irregularities

YSRCP former MLA Malladi Vishnu pointed out the recent seizure of beef in Visakhapatnam and the controversies surrounding the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). He accused the government of failing to safeguard Hindu Dharma, temple assets, and ensure cow welfare. Vishnu also criticized the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of priests for the 700 parayanadar posts sanctioned during the previous YSRCP government.

TDP’s Temple Record Questioned

YSRCP leader Velampalli Srinivas highlighted the TDP’s past record on temple management, stating that several temples in Vijayawada were demolished during their tenure. He contrasted this with the YSRCP’s efforts to rebuild and develop temples, citing the Kanaka Durga temple, which received ₹70 crore for development under the YSRCP government. Srinivas questioned whether N. Chandrababu Naidu had funded any temples during his 14-year tenure as Chief Minister.

Accusations of Inaction

YSRCP NTR district president Devineni Avinash accused the TDP-led coalition of shielding a mafia involved in cow slaughter and illegal beef export. He questioned the inaction of BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, and TTD Trust Board member G. Bhanuprakash Reddy.

The YSRCP’s protest highlights the growing tensions between the party and the TDP-BJP coalition government in Andhra Pradesh. The party’s accusations have sparked a heated debate on temple management and cow protection in the state.

Interestingly, YSRCP leaders are now championing Hindu interests, seemingly to woo Hindu voters for political gain. However, the same YSRCP has been allegedly associated with Christian interests in several cases that surfaced earlier.

Haj Assistance to Muslims

Recently, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced a financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for each Muslim pilgrim undertaking the Haj pilgrimage from the state. This decision was a key promise made by Naidu during his election campaign in April 2024, and the government has started implementing the scheme.

In 2012, the Apex Court directed to stop Haj subsidy step by step. The The Supreme Court did not stop the Haj subsidy in a single event, but rather ordered its progressive elimination over 10 years, which was completed in 2018. The court’s 2012 order directed the government to phase out the subsidy by 2022, suggesting the funds be redirected to the social and educational development of the Muslim community.

However, CM Chandrababu Naidu’s announcement of a ₹1 lakh financial assistance for each Muslim pilgrim undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage has sparked criticism, with some viewing it as an attempt at Muslim appeasement. Critics argue that similar facilities have not been extended to Hindus, raising concerns about discrimination. Notably, the BJP has not protested against this decision, nor has AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan raised any questions about the disparity in treatment towards Hindus.
