Shimla Mosque Row: Hindu Groups Suspend Protest After Administration Accepts All Demands.

Hindu groups suspend protest and Hunger Strike after admin accepts all demands including disputed Shimla’s Sanjauli mosque structure.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Nov 22, 2025:: In a significant development, Hindu organizations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Devbhoomi Utthan Samiti protesting against a disputed mosque structure in Shimla’s Sanjauli have suspended their major protest action after the Himachal Pradesh administration accepted all their demands in writing. The groups, led by the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, had been protesting for four days, demanding the demolition of the unauthorized structure and the withdrawal of an FIR lodged against their members.

Victory for Sanatani Society

The protesters, who had been on a fast-unto-death, termed the outcome a “historic win for the Sanatani society.” They held a “Hindu victory march” in Sanjauli, celebrating the administration’s acceptance of their demands. The accepted demands include cutting electricity and water supply to the disputed structure, withdrawing the FIR, initiating demolition procedures, and forming an eight-member committee to oversee the process.

Key Points of Agreement

According to Kamal Gautam, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, the administration has agreed to:

– Cut off electricity and water supply to the disputed structure
– Withdraw the FIR registered against Hindu organization members
– Form a committee to oversee the demolition process, which will include representatives from the Sangharsh Samiti and administration officials

The committee will ensure that the demolition is carried out as per legal requirements. A review meeting is scheduled for November 29 to finalize the next steps.

Protesters to Continue Relay Hunger Strike

Although the protesters have suspended their fast-unto-death, they will continue a relay hunger strike until the entire issue is fully settled. Vijay Sharma, Convenor of Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, confirmed that written compliance has been delivered, and the administration has agreed to all their demands.

Background of the Standoff

The protest began after Hindu organizations accused the administration of not executing a Shimla local court order directing the disconnection of utilities and sealing of the unauthorized structure. The court had ordered the demolition of the structure, citing it as unauthorized, and the protesters demanded the implementation of this order.

Court Orders and Legal Battle

The agitation stems from a Shimla Court order dated October 30, directing the authorities to demolish all floors of the building. The court had upheld the May 3 order, marking the fourth consecutive judicial endorsement for demolition. The protesters allege that the administration filed a false FIR against several protesters instead of acting on the court order.

With the administration issuing written assurances and beginning action on all points, the organizations have declared the day a “historic moment of collective victory.” The protesters have appealed to their supporters to peacefully return home, and the situation is expected to remain calm.
