Babri in Beldanga, Ram Temple in Berhampore and Grand Gita Recitation by 5Lakh Devotees in Kolkata Reshaping Bengal Politics.

TMC MLA Humayun Kabir’s 6 Dec Babri Mosque Foundation Claim Sparks Row, BJP Cries ‘Appeasement’. Hindus plan to make a Huge Ram Temple in Berhampore. Gita Recitaion by 5 Lakh Devotees in Kolkata Adds Fuel.

Sanghamitra Das | HENB | Kolkata | Nov 29, 2025:: A heated debate has erupted in West Bengal over TMC MLA Humayun Kabir’s announcement to lay the foundation stone of a Babri Mosque in Beldanga on December 6, coinciding with the 33rd anniversary of the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya. The move has sparked intense reactions, with the BJP accusing the TMC of “appeasement politics” and Hindus planning to establish a grand Ram Mandir in Berhampur.

According to reports, Kabir had stated that the mosque construction would take three years to complete and would include a hospital, guest house, eateries, and a students’ hostel. However, another TMC MLA, Nirmal Ghosh, distanced the party from Kabir’s statement, saying that his colleague had “gone beyond the limits” and that the party did not agree with his views.

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a scathing attack on Kabir, accusing him of exploiting anti-Hindu sentiments for electoral gain. “This is the appeasement pro-max politics of TMC,” Poonawalla said, adding that the party’s philosophy seemed to be “give Hindus gali and take vote bank ki tali.”

Poonawalla further accused the TMC of opposing ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and the Ram Mandir, alleging that the party has disrespected Hindu deities, including Maa Sita, Maa Durga, and Maa Kali, asserting that such actions are part of a broader strategy to consolidate votes. “They are the same people who oppose ‘Jai Shri Ram’, Ram Mandir, who have insulted ‘Maa Sita’, ‘Maa Durga’, ‘Maa Kali’, and say Sanatan should be eliminated. This man Humayun Kabir once said that he would chop off Hindus and throw them into river Bhagirathi. These are the same people who, for vote bank politics, will go to any extent, whether it is inciting on Waqf, CAA, SIR, or doing these kinds of things,” he added.

In contrast, Congress leader Udit Raj defended Kabir, arguing that those opposing the move were engaging in “meaningless speculation.” “If the foundation stone of a temple can be laid, what’s the problem with laying the foundation stone for a mosque?” Raj asked.

The controversy has led to a counter-announcement by Hindu residents in Murshidabad, who plan to lay the foundation of a grand Ram Temple in Berhampur on the same day. Local BJP leader Sankharav Sarkar announced that the foundation would be laid in the presence of Hindu saints, monks, and central and state BJP leaders. The grand Ram Temple will come up within three years under the initiative of the Berhampore Ram Mandir Trust.

Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhury has also condemned the Babri Mosque Communal politics in Murshidabad.

BJP leader Advocate Nazia Illihi Khan labeled the Beldanga Babri Mosque foundation as an “extended Jihadi programme” of JMB and Ansarulla Bangla Team, alleging that it was an attempt to separate nine districts of West Bengal, including Murshidabad, to include in a greater Bangladesh.

As tensions rise, the West Bengal government is likely to face a challenge in maintaining law and order. The situation may further escalate with a planned Gita recitation event in Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground on December 7, which is expected to draw 5 lakh devotees.

The event, organized by Sanatan Sanskriti Sansad, will feature prominent figures like Gita Manishi Gyananda, Yog Guru Baba Ramdev, Sadhvi Ritambhara, and Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham. The event is likely to add fuel to the Hindutva mechanism in Bengal, which is set to elect a new government in 2026.

With two huge programmes planned for consecutive days in South Bengal, communal tension may rise, creating greater responsibilities for the state administration and law enforcement agencies.

While the Babri Masjid agenda has been taken up by Muslim leaders of the TMC to remain as the ruling force in Bengal, the Hindu leadership in the BJP has planned to topple the TMC with the power of Ram Temple and Gita recitation programs. Such religious escalation in Bengal politics will likely determine the political fate of Bengal, critics argue.

According to a reliable source, TMC’s Humayun Kabir, known for his communal stance, is set to launch his own Muslim party on December 22, 2025, with the aim of making a Muslim Chief Minister in West Bengal in 2026.
