Yogi Adityanath Signals Potential Campaigns in Kashi and Mathura.

Hindutva Wave Gains Strength As Yogi Adityanath Signals Kashi, Mathura Temple Push.

Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | New Delhi | Dec 8, 2025:: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has reignited enthusiasm among Sanatani organizations and Hindu followers with his recent remarks suggesting that Kashi and Mathura could be the next focal points in the Hindutva-driven temple movement, following the Ayodhya campaign. Speaking at the 23rd Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2025 in New Delhi, Adityanath hinted that the state government would work towards establishing temples in Kashi and Mathura, stating, “Sabhi jagah pohochenge, aur pohoch chuke hain” (We will go everywhere, and have already reached).

Background and Controversy

The remarks have intensified concerns over a broader push to reclaim prominent Hindu heritage sites from alleged Islamic encroachments. Critics view Adityanath’s comments as part of a pattern where encroached Hindu sites are challenged through courts and politics, echoing the path that led to the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The Gyanvapi Temple, currently occupied as the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi, and the Krishna Janmasthan Temple, occupied as the Shahi Eidgah mosque in Mathura, have become focal points, with petitions seeking greater Hindu control and alleging historical temple destruction.

In an interview with Hindustan Times’ Editor-in-Chief Shashi Shekhar at the summit, Adityanath expressed his pleasure and satisfaction over the completion of the Ram Temple, describing it as a defining moment of his tenure. “Any society should feel a sense of pride in its heritage. And all these efforts have begun in that direction. We are grateful to the Honourable Supreme Court for its verdict after reviewing the facts and evidence presented before it. It is the biggest victory of Indian democracy that this decision of the Supreme Court was accepted by all,” Adityanath referred the completion of  Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Recollecting his legacy as the Chief Mahant of Gorakhnath Peeth, Adityanath described how his Dada Guru Digvijaynath placed the Ram Lalla idol inside the disputed structure and his Guru Mahant Avaidyanath led the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Movement. Adityanath considered himself fortunate to have witnessed all phases of the Shilanyas, Pran Pratishtha, and Dhwajarohan of the Ayodhya Ram temple as part of a series of righteous developments.

Opposition and Concerns

Pro-Islamist and selective secular rights groups, along with opposition parties and their media partners have condemned Adityanath’s comments, warning that they undermine the Places of Worship Act, 1991, and fuel communal tension. They argue that Adityanath’s remarks validate fears of a state-backed push to challenge Muslim history and presence in India, shifting focus from governance to alleged religious dominance and targeting the community. But, these groups have been accused of hypocrisy as they allegedly fail to criticize minority bullying of the majority Hindu population in Muslim-dominated areas. They never discuss about Love Jihad, Land Jihad, Conversion, Sharia, and Halal propagations aiming to spread Islamic fanaticism in India in order to establish it as an Islamic state.

However, Adityanath’s remarks signal a sustained attempt to recast India’s secular landscape, undermining the Hindu legacy of Bharat while glorifying the history of Muslim invaders in public memory.
