Provocative Posts Against Hinduism: Abdul Arrested Upon Return from Saudi Arabia; Mangaluru Police Step Up Crackdown.

Hridya R | HENB | Bengaluru | Dec 19, 2025:: Mangaluru City Police have intensified their vigilance against provocative and unlawful activities on social media, taking swift and decisive action in multiple cases that recently came to light. In a strong message against content that threatens communal harmony and public order, the police arrested a Muslim youth immediately upon his return from Saudi Arabia for allegedly posting derogatory content online. In a separate incident, two other youths were taken into custody after a video showing them brandishing swords while dancing went viral on social media platforms.

These actions reflect a broader and stricter enforcement strategy adopted by the Mangaluru City Police in the wake of recent communally sensitive incidents in the region.

Arrested Immediately Upon Return from Saudi Arabia

Addressing the media on Monday, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy confirmed the arrest of 27-year-old Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Mangaluru, who was apprehended on Sunday immediately after landing in India from Saudi Arabia. Nehad had been working in the Gulf country prior to his return.

According to Commissioner Reddy, the Bajpe police had registered a suo motu case on October 11 following the detection of allegedly derogatory and provocative posts targeting Hinduism on an Instagram account. A detailed technical investigation revealed that the posts had been uploaded from Saudi Arabia and that Abdul Khader Nehad was operating the account in question.

In response to these findings, the police issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) to prevent him from evading legal action. Acting on the LOC, law enforcement officials arrested Nehad as soon as he arrived at Kozhikode airport in Kerala on Sunday. He was subsequently taken into custody for further questioning. Police officials have stated that a comprehensive investigation into the case is ongoing to determine the full extent of the activities involved.

Video of Sword-Wielding Goes Viral, Two Arrested

In another incident that raised serious concerns about public safety and law and order, Kavoor police arrested two individuals for allegedly posting a video on social media in which they were seen dancing while brandishing swords.

The arrested accused have been identified as Amir Suhail (28) and Sultan Suresh (29), both residents of Mangaluru city. According to police sources, Sultan uploaded the video on Facebook on Saturday. The footage showed him and Amir Suhail dancing to a song while openly wielding swords, a display that quickly attracted widespread attention and concern after going viral.

The Mangaluru City Police’s dedicated social media monitoring unit promptly flagged the video and alerted local police officials. Acting without delay, Kavoor police traced the individuals involved and arrested both accused. The swords featured in the video, along with the mobile phone used to upload the content, have been seized as part of the investigation. The accused persons were placed in judicial custody later on.

Increased Crackdown After Communal Incidents

Mangaluru City Police have significantly stepped up their crackdown on anti-social and provocative activities in recent days. This heightened vigilance comes in the aftermath of the communally sensitive murders of Abdul Rahman and Suhas Shetty, incidents that have raised tensions and prompted authorities to act firmly to prevent further unrest.

Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy has already issued stern warnings, making it clear that any attempt to disturb communal harmony or glorify violence—whether online or offline—will be dealt with strictly under the law. Officials have reiterated that social media platforms are under constant surveillance and that those misusing them to spread hatred, provoke violence, or intimidate the public will face immediate legal consequences.
